Deciding to install a network card...seems the inbuilt one in my AmigaOne might be playing up...
doesn't seem to be my DLink DSL 504G Router... since get the same problems with a DSL-302G
unreliable speeds etc...
before some of us try and troubleshoot anything...?lol
any suggestions on a good PCI Network Card? The Top 2 or 3 maybe...
and any suggestions on another Modem? and yes, would prefer another Router...
only asking since I know nothing about modern? hardware as of yet...
first AmigaOne ;)
thanks

if its a network card your after, then i would recommend a Dlink or a netgear.
There quite robust cards and support all the relevant IEEE standards for 10/100/1000 Ethernet.
As for modems, is it internal or external? I generally have always favoured USRobotics as a brand. They are usually flash updateable to support any new standards, not that I foresee anything new happening on the 56k scene!!!
I've heard of people having problems using PCI 3Com cards as a replacement for a dead onboard, and besides which the cards supported by the above are faster.
this link is dead and the file hasn't been moved anywhere else... strange... I'll check Aminet later on
thanks again people :D

Regarding my rtl81x9.device and the supported cards: The best bet would be a 8139 non-C+ (i.e. A, B or D) card (100Mbit).. C+ *should* also work, but isn't confirmed yet.
8169 (i.e. 1000Mbit) does also work, but isn't that much faster than a 8139 .. i tried to track the issues down, but so far, i didn't have success and i'm almost convinced that it actually isn't an issue with my driver, but more with Roadshow (or it's settings) or even with the hardware not being able to handle enough interrupts per second..
Oh, and the version on os4depot is a real old one.. for some reasons i can't go deeper into right now, i won't update it anymore (but it works basically anyway).
Anyway.. as said: Get yourself a Realtek 8139 100Mbit card.. most cheap card brands out there (MCab, Conceptronic, equip, etc. for example) are using Realtek chips..

myself and others I'm sure are very appreciative of your endevours in this area...
so very much thanks for your work and detective work (as I see it) also into trying to get the workings working even better...
I shall take your advice and hope all goes well...
perhaps the maintainers of roadshow could benefit from your findings...
all the best with your projects and thanks for the valued insight
