Can't access UBoot menu (solved)
Just popping in

See User information
While trying to find a fix to my AmigaOne's "Radeon task" crash problem I decided it is time to change the battery in the motherboard.

Before doing that, I wanted to have a look at the UBoot menu to check the current settings (taking notes of them as I have gathered I need to restore them after the battery change).

So I stop the boot process by pressing return after the devices are identified and the UBoot menu countdown clock appears. I then type "menu" in the prompt and progress bar appears, something starts to load and after that, the black screen with prompt returns - no menu is loaded.

Is there something wrong in my system, or amd I just daft and calling the menu the wrong way?

Edit: Solved, need to press a button when a progress bar appears.

you have to press any key when the progress bar appears (after
you typed "menu") to get into the menu ... otherwise it will
countdown and throw you back to the prompt

Or you could do it the easy way...

open uboot prefs in workbench and use the 'save configuration as...' menu option...

Thanks for the tip, I can access the UBoot menu now

@all

Memory has been checked OK, I'll have a look at the CPU when I open the tower and change the battery.

Wish me luck!

edit: Battery changed, UBoot settings restored, operation successful

Did not fix the Radeon crash problem, though - I still need to do several warm boots before the machine boots correctly.

at this point I run RAM test program, or maybe try reinstalling the OS.

if that does not work, find me a new PSU or try some differnt RAM, check the CPU fan 2en time, try a differnt GFX card.

then a factory reset in UBoot.

if nothing helps I send the CPU to ACube for a test,
and maybe an upgrade if it failes in there lab.

I'd suggest >PRT: as a more practical place to have them, once you're stuck back in UBoot -- after having had the machine turned off .

Did you pull the Radeon and clean the contacts yet?

Yes, I checked the seating of the graphics card and cpu card, too.

@all

If the machine is turned off for a longer time (say half a day) it seems to boot without a problem. Once up and running, the machine is rock steady. If I have to boot it for some reason (for example some program crashing and requiring warm boot) during usage I get the Radeon crashes, as well as if I power down the machine for a minute or so
and power it up again.

Strangely, I have not installed on the OS side for a few months, pretty much the only thing I have recently installed it OWB and its support files (some .so files, fonts and such).

AW, I'll mark this UBoot thread solved now.

Could be a RAM problem too

Reseat and clean the RAM module and let memtester run
(how much RAM do you have anyway - how many modules?)

edit: btw, you may also want to edit your first post to (solved)

I have 512 MB RAM in a single module. Will check the memory connections and the memory again tonight.

@poweramiga
Could it be that PSU is not pushing enough juice to the AGP bus, and the Radeon fails to initialize properly because of that?
