After completely removing AC97 from the QEMU source and using PCI passthrough with Sound Blaster Audigy FX, everything works fine.
There is also a noticeable reduction in latency, similar to that seen when using PCI passthrough with a GPU.
If you have ever used FPGA vs SOFT emulation, the experience is similar.

OK so you see some improvement but there are still some questions. Is it really necessary to patch out via-ac97 from QEMU or is it enough to just use a passed through card instead without any patches to QEMU? Have you tested that? Also it may be because of different drivers and not emulation vs. real card so have you tested -device ES1370 instead that uses another driver in AmigaOS? That driver that ES1370 uses can also be tested against a real SB128 so that way it could be found if the problems you saw are related to via-ac97 or emulation. You should see no latency on AmigaOS when sound is not playing even with via-ac97 but it may have some effect when sound is playing.

Unless your MacBook Pro has a compatible AMD/ATI graphics card you can pass through to the guest or you can connect one to it this won't work. The vfio-pci pass through needs a graphics card to assign to the guest.

TA-DA! The Belkin USB adapter works with QEMU via USB passthrough
The Belkin is connected via Ethernet to a Linux computer.
The Belkin is connected via USB to a Linux computer.
USB is passed directly to QEMU/AmigaOS4
The Linux computer has internet access via Wi-Fi
AmigaOS4 uses the Belkin USB adapter as its default network card.

Command line for connecting the device to QEMU
-device usb-host,hostbus=0x003,hostaddr=0x005

Here is the data for the Linux side

Test carried out on QEMU9 PEG2 – I’ve been testing it locally since yesterday and it’s working. It’s not exactly lightning fast, but it works ;-D

EDIT:
NET test. File downloads plus an ICMP flood from Linux using the command "ping -s 1023 -i 0.02"
It handled 8 GB flawlessly and stably (given its data transfer capabilities)

Here's a quick demo. IT MIGHT NOT MAKE SENSE WITHOUT A DESCRIPTION!
I pulled my x86_64 machine out of the closet because QEMU 11 RC1 has been released.
This is a technical/dev demo! It might not be very polished because of my mess
I’ll explain what’s going on:
My laptop (from my son- using “kvm” was more difficult)—an SSH session for an x86_64 PC machine.
There, I run my Peg2 and A1 systems on a Linux x86_64 PC with QEMU passthrough for GPU, SND, JOYSTICK/PAD, etc.
You can switch between AOS4 sessions only remotely. The integrated graphics are disabled. It automatically boots into AOS4 A1.
I installed a Belkin Components F5D5050 in the x86_64 PC case. It is connected via USB and LAN to the x86_64 PC. You can see the blinking LED when using the network.
In Linux, the cards are configured with static IPs, and there is MASUARDE for the ETTH output.
My x86_86 PC has very few slots. It has to use a PCI Wi-Fi card, so for internet access on Linux x86_86, I use the Belkin Components F5D5050 USB card under AOS4.

Now my machine is complete. Nothing freezes due to the network under QEMU. There is a “modern” graphics card under AOS4.
The final cost is 60 euros (not including the cost of the system and software licenses).
P.S. I still have the UP3 update ahead of me on these machines, so... it might be interesting

Thank you. I hope someone finds my “blog” useful
I still have one more thing to test—the SiI3132 SATA2 card.
I’m curious about the new driver for AOS4: will it work under QEMU emulation, and what are the differences in performance between the emulated hardware (IDE) and the actual hardware.
