Thanks a lot. Looking the Snoppy log it seems that ScanVars fails on my system.

Not sure why, but that would explain why using the SDL3 Prefs does not do anything.

Somehow I cannot get the Debug output to work, even when rebuilding SDL3 with debug.

I see if I can use printf to get the exact error.

Okay, I figured it out. I have also HunoPPC's libegl wrapper installed.

It has its only set of configuration files in ENV/ENVARC:EGL_wrap directory. But SDL3 scans all sub directories it also picks up ENV:EGL_wrapper/SDL_RENDER_DRIVER and overwrites ENV:SDL_RENDER_DRIVER.

My suggestion is to call ScanVars with the flag GVF_SCAN_LEVEL (do not recurse into sub dirs).

For your information. The remake of the game UBEK (this is not a port, it is completely new code/program for AOS4) has been completely rewritten for AOS4 under OpenGLES2, SDL3, and shaders. The old version used GL4ES.
Thank you for your work on SDL3 under AOS4 !!!

Maybe something wrong with my config or with the tool, but running the benchmark tool shows that readPixels is slower in compositing/Ogles2 than software renderer. (35-40 MB/s vs 730 MB/s).
Is it supposed to be right?

VRAM is very slow to read when compared to RAM, at least on many our systems.

In Poland it was very popular because it was bundled by the main Polish distributor with every Amiga 1200 Magic from Escom. But as far as I know there was also an English-language version released in Europe.

Thank you for the feedback.
I hope this can be fixed someday ;)
While googling, I found this article.

Kind regards,

The AmigaOS 4.1 version is linked on Os4Depot, which is pretty impressive. So our little platform will never be forgotten...

I played the game briefly; it's retro, but it plays very smoothly.

Thanks to everyone involved who made this possible.

Another little SDL3 test for Christmas
OpenTyrian has a Christmas mode

The OpenTyrian2k version in the package is based on the current version of SDL3 from @Capehill.
OpenTyrian does not support the fifth episode, but a fork of the project, OpenTyrian2000, does.

I wish everyone a Merry Christmas

@Maijestro
The new version of UBEK on OpenGLES2 and SDL3 is not yet available on Os4Depot.
It is awaiting approval for public release. There has been a slight delay due to the holidays.

*The limitation for AOS4 for SDL2 was opening and streaming at different frequencies.
For SDL3, this limitation has disappeared, and the UBEK port will work for the AOS4 version in the same way as for the latest platforms (Linux, iOS, Android*) – the stream will be 48 kHz.

I noticed the same thing as @FlynnTheAvatar.
If there is an SDL_RENDER_DRIVER setting in ENV, you need to set the variable in the program sources.
SDL_SetHintWithPriority(SDL_HINT_RENDER_DRIVER, "compositing", SDL_HINT_OVERRIDE);
The problem does not occur in opengles2

Here is a test where I used SDL_HINT_RENDER_DRIVER and it works

Best regards

I did alter variable scanning based on Flynn's comment. There should be a new SDL3 release soonish.

I hope no one minds me posting a video of SDL3 tests here.
If anyone does mind, please let me know.

Here are the SDL3 tests and the latest version of Mighty Mike. It works great on QEMU

What you're doing and your videos are great. No one will care because it shows what's possible with SDL.
