Correct.

So the font really should be present and openable on a standard OS4 installation.

Maybe his font is damaged in some way? Perhaps try copying it again from the OS4 CD and reinstalling it with System/TypeManager?

Weren't the Bitstream fonts renamed to DejaVu? At least that is something I recall reading.

yes .. if it really is a system font. It would indicate that this font is broken or missing. A reinstall would be a good idea.

No, it was the other way around.

At least Bitstream Vera is what they are called in my installations (both beta and public). And I do remember the DejaVu name from way back.
