I don't the speed in serial prefs has anything to do with the speed that will be negotiated by the scannner, you should look in the scanner driver prgram for that.

Even at full speed (115Kb/s ?) the scanner will be slow.

The baudrate set in Serial prefs only applies when the SER: driver is used. Any other application using serial.device directly will set a baudrate on its own and hereby override the global prefs.

IMHO serial prefs is obsolete, should have been deleted ages ago. If you look at the devs:dosdrivers/SER file it should contain:

/* $VER: SER 52.1 (10.12.2006)
*
* SER: for A1 Amiga Hardware
*/

EHandler = L:Port-Handler
Priority = 5
StackSize = 2000
GlobVec = -1
Device = serial.device
Unit = 0
Flags = 0
Control = "8N1"
Baud = 115200

I suggest you delete envarc:sys/serial.prefs and move sys:prefs/serial to storage.

You can also move baud to the SER tooltype as BAUD=115200 so you can edit the icon instead of the file if you need to change it.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm on a peg the device is pegserial.device. Can I just rename this to serial.device? (the native jx100 scanner software defaults to that I cant use the scanner with pegserial.device, I have to use the imagefx drivers)

don't rename it, use makelink so both names are available:

makelink devs:serial.device devs:pegserial.device

There is also the Devs/NSDPatch.cfg file.

It has thorough instructions in a comment section at the top of the file, and at the bottom, there are several examples of device remapping for specific purposes on specific platforms.

It should be possible for you to create a remapping entry for your purpose.

Best regards,

Niels

You must be running some old amigaos version then? nowdays there's an universal serial.device for all NG platforms.

Just what I was going to say. The Final Edition version of serial.device says (when you do a "version full"):

serial.device 53.9 (14/06/2012)
Universal PPC version
