SOLVED-audio issue on my Samflex & OS4.1U1&U2
Home away from home

See User information
I have a M-Audio Revolution 5.1 card and its working great on my system but initailly when I boot up the system I notice that the sound is low when using tunent..i then open the mixer and notice that it is set on cs4281 so I set it to Revo5.1 ..slide the volume control up and down and voila the sound is louder?? I do this every time the system starts..is there a way I can stop this from happening (it's not a big deal but more of a nuisance really)

EDIT:

finally solved..see post 22..thanks again Alex!

I have the same behaviour on my Aureon (EnvyHT24) and AmigaOneXE.

I fixed it by starting Mixer in WBStartup as the very first program.
Even the boot jingle can now be heard pretty well than with using only AHI.

These are the Mixer tooltypes i use

Quote:
STARTPRI=127
DONOTWAIT
CX_PRIORITY=1
CX_POPUP=NO
(CX_POPKEY=alt f10)
(POPWINDOW)
(POPWINDOWLEFTEDGE=920)
(POPWINDOWTOPEDGE=500)
(POPWINDOWDELAY=70)
NO_VIA
(SETLEVELS)
(STEPSIZE=5)

Of course, you need to set the volume levels in Mixer prefs to fit your needs and save them

Just hold down both mouse buttons whilst booting, boot with not startup sequence, then do sys:utilities/notepad s:startup-sequence

Or you could simply replace the file with the backup you made before editing the startup-sequence (you did make a backup?)

Check out the nice friendly light bulb icon called WBHelp in your AmiDock ... (near the end of chapter III).

Best regards,

I have the same M-Audio card in my SamFlex with OS4.1 update 1. I've never used Mixer and my sound works fine. The Workbench startup sound is at normal volume and so is Tunenet.

Try removing the Mixer from WBstartup and delete this file:
Sys:Prefs/Env-Archive/Mixer.prefs

Then restart the computer.

hmm actually you gave me a good idea!..I use Mixer quite often but instead of removing it from WBstartup I think Ill just edit the prefs file you mentioend and have it only load up the envy driver as I dont need the cs4281 at all..hopefully this will solve my issue at startup ?

You need to delete it from

a) SYS:DEVS/AHI (the .audio file)
b) SYS:DEVS/AUDIO MODES (the file with the chipset of the cs4281)

See if Mixer still finds the card.

If not, try again with Mixer in WBStartup and the tooltypes i posted above

About the volume too low, you may need to use an AREXX script to adjust the volume (I use one myself due to LINE-IN being muted for some reason on startup)

note to self: send mail to Davey

just updating this old thread:
- I still have the same issue at start-up after deleting the cs4281 files from DEVS/AHI and AUDIO MODES folders and placing mixer to load up first in my user-startup...any other ideas

There is no need to mail Davey, because IIRC this was intentional behaviour to minimise audible nose.

And solving it is very easy anyway, just have Mixer run on start-up. edit: Ah, I see Mixer causes some problems with a non-built-in audio card. Either Mixer or the audio driver needs fixing then.

Excuseme, it's not a treath about your problem, but I put a sound card (SB Live) in my SAM, but don't see it in the AHI Prefs.

I get the drivers in the Devs/AHi directory and in the Audiomodes drawer.

The PCIView tell that the card is O.K.

How you install your soundcard ?

Mixer works independantly of AHI, which causes lots of problems or at least can cause situations which cause confusion. Whether you install any AHI driver, Mixer searches for sound cards itself, so cs4281 will always show up and does not interfere with your M-Audio card.

What causes confusion is that Mixer, AHI prefs and audio apps can all change the output volume (usually the master output) independently and they will not notify each other.
When you start Mixer in user-startup, this will initialize AHI (which will set up some volumes according to the AHI prefs), then the Mixer.prefs will be read and executed (if not, it will fall back to defaults) and after that any app can change volumes.

If you think "what a mess!", then, yes, it is!
