Update4.1.1 installing on peg2 without CD-Drive ?
Home away from home

See User information
At moment i have not any empty CD's at my home, and my CD-Drive are in the PC computer, so, i thinking about "just copy" installing of os4.1.1.

So i think to do that:

1. backup all the os4 data.
2. run morphos (on morphos i can use my os4 partitions, except jfs).
3. just copy manually all the files from the ISO to the os4 system partition (of course with having in mind that structure must be the same like C, Devs, etc. Not 1:1 copy as it on disk now).

For me it looks pretty possible. Why not ?

It *can* work - but you have to analyse the data structure and all scripts etc. on the CD and change them if nessessary.

So, it works. That what i do:

-- save old system partiion.

-- boot from morphos, erase all the files from os4 system partition, mount ISO (on morphos it's automatically, you just press twice on icon twice and come inside), and copy all the files from SYSTEM directory on CD to your old (and now empty) os4 system partition.

-- Then copy directory Extras from the Installation-files direcotry also to the os4 system partition.

Then, reboot, and you will have problems with ASSIGN, because that startup-sequence which are you copy, will not works fine, so, you just copy old startup-sequence from your saved parition over the new startup-sequence.

Reboot, and all is starts, except AmiDock refer to some image with wrong path (because it was prepared for CD), so, you just remove that icon from amidock, save, reboot and all is works fine.

Then just setup AHI, ScreenModes, etc. That all.

@Antique
Mounting of ISO will cause problems imho, because if you mount and iso, then you already load OS4, with "bad" (old) kickstart modules , etc. And that can (and it's do as i can read in forums) problems. So, you need only hardreset + real CD to booting from, or do way as i describe.

*sigh*

Let's just keep in our minds how you've installed this, so that in the future any problems with your installation can be ignored....

Or make a new partition, format it, and give it the same name as your AmigaOS4.1 update 1 cd,
copy CD to new partition, set boot pri 10, and boot = on, in mediatoolbox.
copy cd0:system/kickstart to your sys:kickstart and then reboot.
after install, go in to mediatoolbox, and remove the boot option from install partition.

To save all the hassle and the " Oh my OS4.1u1 won't boot"
just go and buy a DVD/CD rom driver and install it in your Peg
So much easier and you know you want To get a DVD/CD drive/burner any way.
So save your self a lot of heart ache and just do it

If not, good luck with your install you're a braver man than me!!

That is of course no money related, I just do some computing fan :)

And it's already works fine:) I have fully setuped it, and write right now from 3.23 owb, tunenet plays in backgorund and opengl games/screenblankers works fine. For now i see no problems. There is a screenshot of how it works now for me :) And one more screenshot with Blender in action.
