Re: Screens AmiCygnix, Workbench

@ JosDuchIt

As gerograph said, it doesn't work anymore since update 1.
To fix the problem, you can replace the file "sys:Kickstart/ATIRadeon.chip" with the one from the first release of OS 4.1 (file size 139468 bytes) and make a full reset.
Afterwards launch "myX11Setup", select the display driver "picasso96pip" and enter the desired window size. AmiCygnix should now open the desktop in a workbench window.

Tried it here with an picture 2592 x 3888 and it worked well.
You've said, that it happens after saving the picture. Which picture format did you use? Was it an internal saver or a plug-in?

@ JosDuchIt

The "sh" command is working, but does not open an own window. You can launch commands in it in an Unix like environment, means you can use Unix paths or use the typical Unix shell commands.

Basically a terminal is something, that is able to receive user inputs and send it to a certain program. And of course the other way round to display the output of this program. So finally the thing you want is a terminal, that opens his window on the AmiCygnix desktop and communicates with "sh".

@ Antique

So it only happens with very high and narrow pictures??

Bit ot: When using gimp,if i turns a picture 90degrees it cuts out part of the turned image. Know if this is a bug in gimp?

And i've made a small clip of a simple rescale with gimp on my sam. Will try to find a place to upload it. It's 16mb big.

Didn't have this problem so far. Does it happen with every picture size? (Seems, that you work with very large pictures)

There is no need for a special version of Snoopy for AmiCygnix. Everything is implemented with normal OS4 libraries or the C library Newlib.

@ JosDuchIt

Currently there is no shell like xterm available on AmiCygnix, sorry.

But if you wait a little bit, you can use my special AmiCygnix version of python, which includes for example pyGTK. There is a python console implemented with pyGTK:

Resized Image

It will come with an update of Gimp and Gnumeric for python plug-in support. Both apps offer an own python console.
Don't know, if I should publish a separate package.

BTW: xlaunch is only a little helper tool. You can - for example - launch an amiga command with an unix path argument. It is no shell.

I think this is not a problem of the installer script. You must have an old installer program somewhere on your harddisk. Please type "which installer" into a shell to find it. Normally the result should be "Workbench:Utilities/Installer". If it finds another one, you should delete it.

1) Checked installation and looks ok (myX11Setup in CYGNIX:), deleted all but English/GB catalog, still has German buttons though?

Did you select "english-british" as your language? If yes, then myX11Setup doesn't find the catalog. Please duplicate the drawer (and it's content) "Cygnix:Catalogs/english" and name it "Cygnix:Catalogs/english-british".

2) Thanks for the script, set up a deficon for worddoc like you said, but getting following message now when trying to open a worddoc from Workbench:

EXECUTE: Parameters unsuitable for key "FILE/K"

The argument template should be "FILE/A" or simply "FILE" as Amigo1 said. This is a bug in my current AbiWord package, sorry.
And yes, please set the script flag!

1) How do ccan I change myX11Setup to english as the options on mine are in german?

I guess, there is something wrong with your installation. Normally the english catalog is installed by default. It should be located in "Cygnix:Catalogs/english" (myX11Setup.catalog) and the program "myX11Setup" should be in "Cygnix:". When the program is moved to an other place, it cannot find the catalog.

Quote:
2) Is it possible to start an AmiCynix program form a DefIcon, e.g. when double clicking on a Worddoc it would open in AbiWord?

Yes, it is possible, but it is a little bit tricky. Reason: AmiCygnix programs can only handle Unix style paths, DefIcons uses of course Amiga style paths.
AmiCygnix contains a command for translating paths. You could use this script for opening Word documents with AbiWord:

;
; $VER: Start_abiword_DefIcons.bat 1.0 ? 30.09.2010 Edgar Schwan
;

.bra {
.ket }
.key FILE/A

Cygnix:Software/AbiWord-2.6/Start_abiword.bat `Cygnix:CygnixPPC/bin/amiga2unixpath {FILE}`

Download: Start_abiword_DefIcons.bat

I suggest to store this script to "Cygnix:Software/AbiWord-2.6". Then create a project icon in "Sys:Prefs/Env-Archive/Sys" called "def_worddoc.info" and set "Cygnix:Software/AbiWord-2.6/Start_Abiword_DefIcons.bat" as the default tool and select "start with Shell".

I hadn't heard of Claws Mail. Can it be simply installed in AmiCygnix?

Yes, it can be installed as usual with an installer script. If you don't use IMAP, Claws-Mail is the better choice. It has more features (view HTML mails, calendar plug-in, ...), only IMAP is missing. You can download it here:

O.K. - I think SSL is the problem here. The implementation I'm using for my programs seems to be buggy. It works most times, but with some programs (for example Apache/AAMP) it doesn't. Had no time to fix it yet. Claws-Mail uses the same SSL libraries, so I guess, that it has the same problem.

I thought my "(By the way, if I click Get after OK'ing the failure alert, my e-mail comes up immediately.)" answered that question in advance.

Sorry, I misunderstood this. English is not my native language.

I never had such problems with Sylpheed and I did not hear about it since now. I think there is a communication problem between Sylpheed and your mail server. Did you try Claws Mail? Maybe it works better.

Edit:
Just thinking: What kind of e-mail account do you use? POP3 or IMAP? Encryption (SSL) or not? ...

Are you able to send and receive e-mails? Normally this delay only happens, when the connection to the e-mail server fails.
Please check your setting of the e-mail account.

Re: Gimp install question

@xenic

The SDK is not required. But it seems, that there is a bug in my AmiCygnix software. The command "pkg-config" is used to detect an older version of Gimp and he also searches for "SDK:". I have to remove this in my next update.

If you want to install Gimp, it is safe to click on "cancel", when the requester appears.

@mbrantley

I still have no solution for this problem. It seems, that the overlay window does not support th R5G6B5 pixel format anymore.

The only way to solve this at the moment is to replace the file "Sys:Kickstart/ATIRadeon.chip" with the one from the first release of OS4.1 (I do it this way). But I can't tell you, which disadvantages it has.

please check, if the libraries "sysvipc.library" and "threads.library" are still in LIBS:. The libraries are included in the base archive (directory "install-data/libs").

btw, any chance on bringing Inkscape over to AmiCygnix ??

I see no chance for me. Inkscape needs the Boehm-GC library, which I cannot compile, although it was ported to OS 3.x before. Anyone else?

Second is Boost, which is only available for Clib2. But I didn't try to compile it yet.

All other dependencies are available for AmiCygnix.

I'm proud to announce the availability of plugins and modules in Gimp 2.4.7
Most plugins are working, only a few refuse to work.

Several details are still in development, so a release will need some more time. Stay tuned...

@kas1e

The load formats are shown in the screenshot above. All loaders are based on gdk_pixbuf, which means, that layers are not supported (except XCF), but alpha channels. And the pictures are loaded into a RGB colorspace.

I have no working savers yet, but I think that I can support PNG, PNM and JPEG, maybe more...

However I still hope that you found some way to hw accelerate your X11 server...
Any way to do that? Like set up a bounty or something like that?

I had no success so far. I think with the current version of the X server it is impossible (R6.3). Maybe with a newer one (>R7.3), but I have no working server so far.
A bounty will not help as I cannot give a guarantee that I can make it.
