Just popping in

When I turn the Amiga A1200 PPC tower I get a message before worbench loads which says-:
ASSIGN:Can`t find RAM:ENV
How do I fix this?

Remove the line from s:startup-sequence which reads:
assign env: ram:env

OS4 doesn't use this so I have no idea why that line will be present, but the error suggests it is!

Remove the assign, os4 sets up an ENV virtual directory in memory, the kickstart/env-handler.kmod handles this. You can access this directory the same as any other after bootup.

first boot as normal. start NotePad and load the file "S:StartupSequence".
search for the line mentioned above, delete it, save and reboot.

Hi
Ref-:ASSIGN:Can`t find RAM:ENV
I opened notepad and went into Startup-sequence and it seems it not there. So I opened User-startup and this what comes up-:
:END MUI
:BEGIN Ram:ENV
Assign >NIL: ENV: RAM:ENV
c:Copy >NIL: ENVARC: ENV: ALL NOREQ
:END Ram:ENV
:BEGIN ENV
C:MakeDir >NIL: Ram:ENV
C:Assign >NIL: ENV:Ram:ENV
C:Copy >NIL: ENVARC: ENV: ALL NOREQ
:END ENV
:BEGIN REXX

I am not sure what I have to delete as I don`t want to do something wrong as I`m a bit of a novice.
Thanks.

First make a backup of user-startup just in case you make a mistake.

Next delete the following;

:BEGIN Ram:ENV
Assign >NIL: ENV: RAM:ENV
c:Copy >NIL: ENVARC: ENV: ALL NOREQ
:END Ram:ENV
:BEGIN ENV
C:MakeDir >NIL: Ram:ENV
C:Assign >NIL: ENV:Ram:ENV
C:Copy >NIL: ENVARC: ENV: ALL NOREQ
:END ENV

Save & do a warm reboot.

A transition from classic to OS4, I remember new A1 users trying to figure out ENV: & we did the same assign thing.
