Software News : Giddy returns to the Amiga!

Software News

In the early 90's, the shareware games "Wibble World Giddy" and "Giddy 2" were released for the Amiga. The proved pretty popular, but then in 2001 the third game, "Giddy 3" was released for MS-DOS!

In 2008, I contacted the author and obtained the assembler source code, and converted it to C, and now its available for AmigaOS 4.1!

Download it from OS4Depot.

 Re: Giddy returns to the Amiga!
Sorry to say Pete, but it doesn't work here.

I get a black screen, "Detected MiniGL V2.0" and "Activated screen bodge" in the console, then the black screen closes.

On the serial I have:

[os4video_GL_Init] Initializing OpenGL
[os4video_GL_Init] Creating context from bitmap 0x6717A0B8

So I assume it fails to create the context for some reason.

@Rigo
Hmm very strange. Maybe i'll wang it in the SVN so you can have a look?

@Everyone
I've created a facebook page for it, so if you like the game and are on facebook, why not become a fan? :)

Version 1.1 should be hitting the Depot any minute which fixes some bugs, so you are encouraged to re-download.

Thanks for the fixes!

Version 1.0 only crashed my system (?A1), but version 1.1 works well.

Just to let you know 1.1 runs fine here, but it locks intuition on exit, needing a reboot.

Works without crash on Sam440ep. Exiting the games works, too.
But on AOS4.1 on my Sam440ep everything is "green" and thus looks ugly.

 Re: Giddy returns to the Amiga!
How about including an Amiga version string so we can tell which version we have? It really needs a save game function. I'm already sick of seeing the starting point and have stopped playing.

 Re: Giddy returns to the Amiga!
v1.2 is about to hit the depot. Changes:

All versions
- Giddy's speech bubbles and some other texts stay on the screen for a bit longer.
- The appearance of the hint bulb is a bit more obvious
- Fixed a nasty bug which meant that if you did things in a certain order the game became uncompletable.
- Included an Amiga version string
- Includes joystick support, but it is untested because SDL doesn't seem to find my joypad even though AmigaInput supports it. I'm guessing SDL might need an update.

 Re: Giddy returns to the Amiga!
The game crashes every time when I reach the "spaceship level" (where you get when you go through the Stargate-like portal. If I drop down the shaft protected by laser beam and go left the game freezes totally.

I have also experienced some random crashes, but this one happens all the time.

AW, great game - many thanks to xeron for this port
