Hardware News

ACube Systems is pleased to announce a new release of the U-Boot firmware for its Sam440ep motherboards (mini-itx and flex versions).

What's new in this version:

Click [Read More] below for further info.

- improved gfx cards setup, it solves compatibility problems with some Radeon HD cards
- better internal PCI bridge setup for a slight faster RAM <-> VRAM transfer speed
- added PEX 8112 PCI – PCIE bridge setup (used on some Radeon HD PCI variant cards)
- added a new menu entry to enable/disable IRQ on an external PCI gfx card
(try disabling IRQ if the system seems freezed after loading the AOS4.1 kickstart files, for example)

The updated installation guide describes in detail the usual installation method (ISO image) and alternative methods (TFTP).

You can download installation archives from:

Additional information:

Please note: UBoot and UBoot updater make use of GPL code and thus are both published under GPL.

 PEX8112 pci-pcie bridge setup
this is interesting to me as a A1XE owner, do you know if this Uboot version will work on my machine?

I wouldn't try it in an A1XE you would most likely brick your machine. It is designed for the Sam 440ep boards only

 Re: PEX8112 pci-pcie bridge setup
I wouldn't dare try it as it is but just wanted to know if it would be possible to arrange the PEX8112 bridge setup into the A1XE u-boot firmware, since I have tried to use one of the pci-pcie cards already and found it baulks at uboot, so I get an initial screen on boot up but it wont pass onto second stage amiga boot. my view is if I don't ask I don't get. and I would like to be able to use a couple of hdradeon cards in my machine if the problem is just uboot.

Would be cool if the A1-XE firmware could see the same update. I have one. Cheers!

 How use it?
I'm a bit puzzled how we're supposed to use this. It's a GZipped Tarred archive (strange choice for Amiga) of what appears to be source code. Are we expected to compile this ourselves??? And then somehow magically install it to the firmware?? The ah "README" is anything but helpful for most users. Ah. The links for what we're supposed to download are not present in this news article :(

OK, here's the actual news article:
http://acube-systems.biz/index.php?page=news&id=139

And here are the proper download links:
http://www.acube-systems.biz/download/updater_131f_mini.iso
http://www.acube-systems.biz/download/updater_131f_flex.iso

Make sure to use the right one (Flex or non-Flex), or you will probably brick your Sam440. If in doubt, get the "UBoot 1.3.1f 11-Oct-2016 updater ISO" Download from the correct web page for your motherboard:

 Re: How use it?
Warning: Apparently the non-Flex version doesn't actually work, and crashes before installing the firmware update. So it's not actually harmful (AFAIK), but it doesn't do anything either (until they release a fix).

 Re: How use it?
Confirmed. It's on the MiniITX form factor the ISO doesn't work.
Max knows now about the issue. He will check that soon.

Any news regarding this issue? My Sam440ep-Mini-ITX still likes to be upgraded... :-)
