![]() Sounds good, but it would be really helpful to know how SFS2, TuneNet, AmiDVD & Partition Wizard have been improved. i.e. Why should we want to purchase them?
And does Partition Wizard now work on the X1000? |

![]() Hi Chris,
I am pleased to confirm that PartitionWizard now works on the X1000 and X5000. Joerg very kindly has also made minor updates available for AmiDVD and changes to enable SFS2 to work on X5000. The TuneNet improvements were inspired by your comments and others on these forums. For example, you asked for a progress slider bar on the front page, which we added (amongst various other requests you put forward). We also rebuilt/modernised large sections of the code (now compiles under latest SDK). In the UI we added support for Final Edition features such as AISS New Menus, Snapshot window titlebar gadget and also InfoWindow Class support. |

![]() I must admit that I really thought stuff like
- SFS2
- Format incl. SFS
- Rhingio (notifications) and
- Partition Wizard.
where part of AmigaOS 4.x and would/should have been updated with forthcoming OS releases (or could have been with the final edition of 4.1). Nevermind, I'm happy that these components are updated.
What I really find enerving is the fact that in i.e. the AmigaOS support forum you'll never know whether a problem or a question will be handled/answered or not with someone muttering "It's not part of the OS, it's a third party component...ask the author!".
Even now and in the past years it is and was little bit in-transparent what is "3rd party" and what not. Sigh. (And I don't mean the clearly tagged stuff from the "Contributions" or "Extras" drawer of the OS install package).
Nevertheless - thanks to all the authors and beta testers for realising this package!

SFS was always a contribution. Format is an optional 3rd party replacement for the original, it's up to you to remember which you use if you get problems (BTW. it DSI's if you're using XADFilesystem, dismount any devices first, hopefully that will be fixed in an update, a bug report has been filed). Partition wizard amoungst others were 'bundled software' where the author retained the source and copyright so it's up to the author how or if it's distributed. Thanks for the thanks, it's been erm... 'interesting' beta testing enhancer. :-) |

Thanks for reply. Do you know if SFS2 was enhanced to support block sizes larger than 512 bytes? (The version included with OS4 does not officially support other sizes, even though older 68k versions did support it. Larger sizes do *appear* to work on OS4, but Hyperion's official advice is to not use other sizes since it might cause some kind of unspecified problem.) ALSO, I would really suggest some kind of list of the main improvements to those updated programs (compared to their old/free versions), so that people sitting on the fence can decide if it's really worth buying or not. The "Games Bundle DVD 1 by Huno" suffered from this same problem of not listing what has improved compared to their older free versions, so the buyer has no way to judge if buying it is worth it, and thus I personally didn't buy it. (I'm not a big games player anymore, but I might have been convinced to buy it if I knew what I was getting.) While some people might buy such "updated" programs on faith, I suspect that more would buy if they knew what benefit they were getting. |

To install you simply click the Install_Enhancer_Software icon and select the components you want to install. I strongly recommend you review the Read_Me_First document before starting. ![]() |

I have had to uninstall it (Thanks ChrisH, AmiSystemRestore) No output after the installation. Have tried installing without the new RadeonHD driver. Monitor output retored but X-Dock Grim Reapered on boot. Candy and ClipViewer did notthing when I tried to launch. This on a Sam460CR, with 4.1FE and and a RadeonHD7770. Cheers |

![]() ClipViewer runs silently in the background and is invoked by using the hotkey combination of CTRL-ALT-V see here: http://wiki.amiga.org/index.php?title=ClipViewer
CANDIPrefs need to be started after reboot and you select (and save) the CANDI you want to run. Please can you log X-Dock issue here: http://www.amigadeveloper.com/bugreports Please provide full specs of hardware and OS. Thank you. |

![]() Good idea, install without X-Dock and updating RadeonHD v2. Let me know the outcome.
In the Installer, both CANDI and ClipViewer have the option to be automatically started in your WBStartUp on next boot. ClipViewer will then run silently in the background until you press the hotkey combination I described in earlier post. |

You are right, set to NO by default. AmiSystemRestore; Restore's copy of "Sys:Prefs/Env-Archive/Sys/ringhio.appsprefs.xml" succeeded but was not protected (exists = -1), for task "AmiSystemRestore", for task "Utilities:AmiSystemRestore/AmiSystemRestore" Cheers |

![]() Im with cha05e90 about much feels like stuff that should be in the os4update. Also not much into the stuff with bigger packages as it just keeps the price up specially if you dont need most of the stuff or already have bought some of them. For example as im under winuae not much is interesting. If i was still hardcore x1000 users i would probably buy it as the warp3d nova etc but im not.
But i must say your doing good work with keeping the os4 a bit updated specially in these times when no updates are released with amiupdate for the OS.

It's looking more and more like there is some sort of agreement between A-EON and Hyperion, something like: - Hyperion work on multi-core, focus solely/mostly on that and A1222 support - A-EON crew do everything else that doesn't require kernel work |

Blimey! Well remembered sunshine!! ![]() What's the point of the SDK includes for the enhancer classes? If classes aren't part of the OS there's no guarantee that they will be present on every OS4 users' system. I can't imagine a commercial developer using them in program and then telling customers they need to buy the enhancer software to use the program.

I don't want to derail thread, so PM me or start a new thread if want to discuss further. But just to clarify: AmiSystemRestore seems to work fine for me, even though I haven't updated it in a long time. Any warning messages are UNlikely to mean a serious bug, but rather probably just a warning in the "debug log" that it wasn't able to back-up (protect) some unimportant file or other. AmiSystemRestore will keep warning about the "debug log" not being empty, until the log is deleted (after perhaps emailing me the debug log). |

![]() Probably put drivers in the pack make no big sense, but if it cover payment needs, then everything is ok in our small market.
As for classes, i quote what i write on amigaworld: probably they should be released somewhere (like os4depot) together with SDK's for all the developers who want to use it. So, any user can download them for free, and any author can point out in them as well. Because if make classes for private use, it will only mean, no one else except ppls who in dev team will use them. Writing mails, asking "please can i use your new clasees, give me SDK, should i sign agreement?" too boring and probably non-go, and 3d party devs will just skip those classes. But, if classes done for private use in first place, then why not. Just then there no needs to mention them at all :) And for sake of amiga1200, can anybody say me if there is real change_logs for stuff like sfs, tunent, partiionwizzard, rignio, amidvd, etc ? And when aeon will buy os4 rights, so all that fragmented mambo-jambo stops ?:)) |

IMHO for the time being they want keep the new classes for 1st party "Enhancer Software" usage only. There's nothing wrong with that, but then why did they also include the SDK in the package? For 3rd party usage the usual business model is making the libraries publicly available (they can't be used just by themselves anyway), and sell the SDK and/or license to the developer. Otherwise you won't be able to distribute 3rd party programs using these classes. |

We take care in the programs included in the Enhancer package to use the new classes only if available in the target system.
For example, if new InfoWindow class is not available, standard window is used for About window or if new ProgressBar gadget is not available, standard FuelGauge is used.
All developpers could do the same to use new classes only if available, no ?
Sorry, but I don't see a real problem here.

Most people will just write for the standard ones unless they really need the new features - and if they really do need the new features, they will require the classes so they need to be freely available. I agree with BSzili above; the classes should be free but the SDK paid for. That's a sensible model. (still useless for open source things like NetSurf though, where any includes need to be freely downloadable for the toolchain to work) |

Quote: All developpers could do the same to use new classes only if available, no ? Sorry, but I don't see a real problem here. I do see a real problem here. As Chris says, it means extra work (= development time) and complicates testing; plus, maintaining conditional code is a nuisance. As if the main code wasn't complicated enough! |

![]() I'm confused by the complaints about the SDK parts, installing them is optional, using the classes in any software of your own is even more optional...
Matthew has already said on the aw.net thread that usage of them is to be encouraged and that any developer wanting to bundle them can ask about a license, to do so. Info window is particularly powerful and useful IMHO, if you want to save time creating more advanced imformational windows. I do think it was a bit of waste of time writing fallback code for missing classes when we new they would be present, but as the older style About windows were already written it wasn't much effort. Note some of the classes *are* required by some of the Enhancer softwares , there no fallback for missing shared.image in ClipViewer and MultiViewer (used for thumbsnails) for example. |

The driver update was required for the W3D_Nova library to work, maybe Matthew just thought it would be easier to bundle it. |

"that any developer wanting to bundle them"
Therefore, InfoWindow.class file for example could be distributed in an 3rd-party program archive in OS4Depot ? And therefore, after, downloaded by everyone ?
If yes, I don't understand why not send it directly to os4depot. Certainly that I misunderstood something...

As far as the classes are concerned, I don't think Matthew has a plan set in stone yet. IMHO licensing the classes and/or their SDK to third-party developers will not work. This model didn't work very well for ClassAct (20 years ago, when there were thousands of users and hundreds of developers), and the authors of the toolkit were all too happy to sell the lot to Amiga.

Thanks for the details. Sorry about the driver issues, which I wish we'd caught prior to release. I'm looking into the problem now... Hans |

I experience the same problem with my X1000. So far I did not try to put back the old Radeon.chip, I have no more time for this. I'll wait for the fix. Until there (and I'll have to find the time to boot from CD or USB key, reinstall the old driver and then install the new driver), I'll keep my X1000 shut down since I'm fed up being a beta tester for everything. And if the fix doesn't see the light of day anytime soon, I'm glad to have lost 70€ for a "dead" X1000. |

I can only apologise yet again that this slipped through, and assure you that I'm actively working on trying to figure out why a few cards have mysteriously started failing. And, let's be clear here, it is rather mysterious. My Radeon HD 7770 + A1-X1000 is working flawlessly with the new driver, while yours is not. All in all, only about 3 people have reported issues (including you), and they're all using different Southern Islands cards. We've tracked it down to version 2.14, but the one change to the lowlevel init code (which was actually removing some redundant code that shouldn't be there) proved to be irrelevant. I'm now investigating whether perhaps switching to GCC 5 round that time is the cause of our troubles. Hans |
