Software News

This is a quick update to eGame, to fix problems that some users were having. It also looks a lot nicer . eGame allows you to keep an easily searchable list of games for playing - rather than having to hunt through lots of folders using Workbench/Wanderer/Ambient.

Recent changes
* Moved the Icon & "Filter tags" windows into the main window, due to user demand. (It's taken some time to convince me, but it does look better!)

* Added a "Play count" column.

* Fixed some games failing to start on AmigaOS4 (or even crashing).

* Tries to fix tags which were wrongly entered by the user.

* and more!

Introduction
eGame allows you to keep an easily searchable list of games for playing - rather than having to hunt through lots of folders using Workbench/Wanderer/Ambient. Please note that eGame is only able to start games that you can already run by double-clicking them.

"eGame" is short for "(Portabl)E Game Launcher". I originally wrote eGame as a test & an example of what can be achieved with PortablE's easy GUI system, but (after some prodding from Joel) I think it has become a nice useful program in it's own right.

As I've put a lot of effort into making tagging & filtering easy but still pretty powerful, I decided to make it 'DonationShareware'. Without a key file it will only display 10 games (although you can still search all stored games & the first 10 matches will be shown). If you want to get a key file to unlock it, then you need to send me at least 2 Pounds or Euros by PayPal (although I encourage you to donate more if you feel it is worth more!).

You can download eGame directly from my web site (until Aminet & OS4Depot accept the new version).

With the recent changes, here is what it looks like now:

How would it look if all images was scaled to fit the frame?

Many old Amiga icons (typically 4-8 colours with dithering) would look ugly when scaled, although perhaps I could try detecting the icon type. Also my scaling is only smooth on OS4 (via Cairo), but I'd prefer all versions to be identical.

I'm experimented with enlarging icons, and something with be in the next release... although I don't know whether people will like it.

 Re: eGame r2 released
Give it a try , and so far it looks and works ok, but there is 2 points which make it looks a bit non-intuitive

1). No usuall intuition menus spawned by RMB, where we have usuall about, quit and co. Even if there is nothing to put, even about and quit should be here, as its pretty handly to have menus in all the programms.

2). The only way to bring a game to the list of games its drag&drop. That can be a bit hard and annoing in some situations, so some classic "open file" in the RMB menu (which is not here sadly), can be good second way of adding stuff to database as well.
