Software News : Timberwolf Alpha 1 available for download

Software News

We're happy to announce the availability of the first Alpha release of Timberwolf, the AmigaOS port of the popular Firefox browser.

Timberwolf needs AmigaOS 4.1 Update 2 installed. Please read the documentation for information about usage and limitations.

This is an alpha release, meaning it will have a lot of problems still, and be slower than it should be. We are releasing it as a small "Thank you" to all those that have donated in the past, to show that development is still going on.

Timberwolf is available on os4depot.net . For further information and feedback, check the Timberwolf support forum on amigans.net.

Re: Timberwolf Alpha 1 available for download
First of all THANKS (using it right now)

Second:I thought I would've needed a new system to make Timberwolf "Move" instead on heavy sites (like IGN) is WAY faster than anything else.
I am AMAZED.

P.S.
Just noticed that when I click on the "more" emoticon tab I get the classic pop up window with the additional ones as I am used to on Windows, in OWB it opens a new tab instead ).

Re: Timberwolf Alpha 1 available for download
Good !

First run (right after installation) give me heavy HDD load, then crash with all unresolved symbold and info (but i also have in backgorund many other programms running). Then reboot, run from clean - and it starts.

Starts a bit slower than owb, some bugs is here (but that is in the readme), but it works ! Also when i come to russian site, everything in ugly characters, but i think its too early to boring about it.

Loading of pages itself .. well, at some point faster that owb, but at some point not (and maybe a bit slower). The same for scrolling.

That all on peg2.

But its very good start. Thanks a lot.

Great job guys!

Big projects like this not only bring great software to AmigaOS but they also help highlight bugs. Many important fixes are now in the OS thanks to Timberwolf so everybody wins even if you don't want to use Timberwolf.

Re: Timberwolf Alpha 1 available for download
Thanks for posting.

How good is it at CSS? Does it correctly use personas yet? Those sexy looking skins.

Keep up the posting - try this site www.dofus.com. Sure, the flash won't, but interesting to see how this early port is shaping up.

Heh, much as expected. Very CSS-intensive site. But nevertheless shaping up nicely.

Re: Timberwolf Alpha 1 available for download
Don't quite get why this Dofus site looks like that, the layout part is exactly the same on all platforms, but it might be related to the slightly older version of the Mozilla codebase we've used - updating to the latest (probably 3.6, I think they're at RC stage) is one of the top todo items.

@djrikki

Not yet, currently we have 3.5 Beta 4, Personas is supported only since 3.6 and above

@Rogue

Latest release is 3.6.3 but 3.6.4 (a new major release not just a fix update) will be released in a week or so

Re: Timberwolf Alpha 1 available for download
Hello,

Thanks for your hard work, really appreciated.

I was pleasantly surprised how usable it is already, even on a Sam (667).

It's a bit slow (as indicated in readme, it will be improved in the future) but it works well (no crash yet).

A big UP for you, Thomas and Hans-Jo?rg!

Re: Timberwolf Alpha 1 available for download
It's all falling in to place wouldn't you say?

Extremely Cool Bananas!

Slayer wonders off to download it

EDIT:

Well I'm back in TW... I must say... AWESOME!

The only thing I needed to do is drag the top window high enough to uncover the sizing gadget on the lower right corner (to make the screen full size 1680x1050 ) and added a 0 at the end of the 8192 in tooltypes (err just incase) )

And it is Quick Enough!
