Lion Heart proper config ?
Home away from home
Home away from home

See User information
Tried lately to make some Amiga classic games of childhood working as good as possible, and while most are fine, the “Lion Heart” one gives me a bit of issue.

The issue, is that the cloud in the sky of the few bit planes looks like a trash and blinking strangely, see how it :

And the water seems a bit blinking too strangely.

That probably because of outdated core of our UAE (if i remember correctly, the WinUAE have had problem of this kind too in the beginning, but were fixed years ago).

But just in case, maybe someone finds the magic settings for, to have it working correctly on our EUAE ?

My current config is:

Yes, Lionheart is difficult to emulate. Set CPU_SPEED = real. At my old e-uae sdl (without jit), the whdload version works quite well.

Lion Heart has some known problems (Sky Clouds), there was a lot of discussion about this problem on EAB and other Amiga forums, here maybe they found a solution, with a remake :)

CPU_SPEED=real make no differences in terms of the sky-water glitches, only make loading be slower..

It's not only Sky Clouds issue, it just some randomly trashing things happens visually. I remember that WinUAE didn't have that, but need to check.

Thanks! It is definitely better on your video, and you have no issues with clouds for sure!

Just in case, while i mimic your config, can you please also compare with my file sizes if we use the same versions or not:

Whdload:

I use WHDLoad_usr.lha 1432278 Bytes created 2022-05-30
Also i use latest whdload install archive for LionHeart from whdload.de which is of 115.787 size. It is version 2.3 (01.01.21) done by Psygore (where you also can set some other fixes for LionHeart)

The game itself is:

Lionheart (1993)(Thalion)(Disk 1 of 4).zip : 832,867
Lionheart (1993)(Thalion)(Disk 2 of 4).zip : 769,277
Lionheart (1993)(Thalion)(Disk 3 of 4).zip : 788,764
Lionheart (1993)(Thalion)(Disk 4 of 4).zip : 765,254

Is all the same for you ?

I have the same issues as @Kas1e regarding Lionheart.
As your video shows, you dont have the issues!
Could you post your complete .uaerc ?

I tried with your config, and with UAE SDL, and i still have the same issue strangely ! WTF .. Somewhere something weird happens...

What i also have, is the slow fadein/fadeout of the game's pictures (the before-level images, the main logo, etc). Like it pauses a bit in process (but i double checked, i use SDL version of UAE for tests).

Quite strange! And for you its the same for both x1000 and x5000, i.e. no bug ?

@Skateman
I wrote the Mufa's config from his video, there is (hope no typing mistakes in which can be guilty for this issue):

kickstart_rom_file=Work:EUAE/kick3.1.rom

scsi
=true
scsi_device
=CD0:
cpu_type=68020
chipset
=aga
cpu_speed
=real

=no
show_leds
=false
chipmem_size
=4
fastmem_size
=8
z3mem_size
=64
gfxcard_size
=16
amiga
.screen_type=ask
ssdl
.use_gl=true
gfx_width_windowed
=640
gfx_height_windowed
=512
gfx_fullscreen_picasso
=yes
gfx_lores
=false
gfx_linemode
=double
gfx_center_horizontal
=true
gfx_center_vertical
=true
sound_output
=normal
sound_max_buf
=4096
sound_interpol
=rh

sound_bits
=8

Alternatively i think that maybe Mufa use some other WHDload installer (and older one ?) . Or, maybe some specific to WHDload settings. Or maybe run or not run setpatch before, etc.

I have also tried with the settings i had seen in his video... (like you wrote) but the issue remains...
I asked for the complete .uaerc just to check if he has a value i am missing.

Is @Musa also using OS3.2 ?

I tried to just comment out my whole System disk and run with his config , so only UAE binary , + whdload game with the minimum it needs : in the game's directory just s:startup-sequence with "whdload SLAVE=LionHeart.Slave PRELOAD" and that all.

@Mufa
Just in case, maybe you can pack the whole "lionheart" directory as you have it and upload, so we can find out where is differences.

I found interesting detail : in the Readme from the whdload package of lionheart, rght at the end we have that:

Quote:

Note:
If you run the game on a plain A1200, you should use novbrmove option to
avoid gfx glitch in background.

Maybe that it ?

Found the issue!
Its in the
# JIT
#cachesize=8192

When cachesize= enabled.. the glitches appear.
When disabled all look good..
Now the question how to be able to use caching and solve the issue

On your video bug indeed gone, but i do test without jit previously too, and just in case set cachesize to none, and bug still there.

Interestingly that you seems use 2.2 version of whdload patch , while my one 2.3 one. Maybe that related somehow ..

Anyway, i just use this NoVBRMove, and bug is gone ! I even can run it with JIT enabled (together with cachesize=8192), but then it give me other sort of glitch :) Need to do some more tests

Sorry i fogot to mention i also used the novbrmove in the tooltype..

But when i enable cache the issue is back, en when i outcomment cache all is fine. So its not the amount of cache.. but the use of cache.

Ah so, the same as for me then. The only exception that i do not have the same bug back, i do have another one, also glitch, but of mountains, the clouds still ok.

But with JIT it still plays and load cool, and even CPU=MAX are fine too.

I apply the principle that if the game works with an older version of WHDload, I try not to update WHDload to the latest version, because I know that sometimes it can bring more problems than good. For Lionheart I use the WHDload 17.2 version (01.12.2013). I did not know that there was a newer inscription Slave, I use the old one from 2014 (2.2), but I will try to check with the newer.

I don't remember where I got the game anymore, it has been on my disk for many years. I only know that I do not have a diskette images in the catalog, only one subdirectory Date with size 3293546 bytes, where all data from Lionheart is unpacked.

Ok, I just updated Slave 2.3. In fact, he has a lot of corrections related to graphics displaying. I activated them all. This is how I can also play at the CPU = max. Of course, the NOVBRMOVE parameter, as in the case of the previous version of Slave, I have active.

Btw, did you noticed anywhere in the game a difference after all those 2.3 fixes ? I can only see that interlace in menu gone if i enable that fix, but water effect in game looks the same as before. There also "additional graphics" fix, but at least in the level 1 i didnt see differences.

Btw, do you have as me some strange small slowdowns of fadein/fadeout effects with the logo and with images between logos ? Its almost ok, but still i can see it. With enabled jit all fast, but then mountains in the game with enabled jit have visual glitches.

@all
Is it possible to setup whdload to not show a whdload screen, but take all options from config automatically without needs to choose things on whdload screen and hitting a key
