I'm planning on getting an external usb hd drive. Are there any brands i should avoid? Or are they working quite wll most of them, even on the amiga? Anything else i should worry about?

You should get the one that is easiest to set up.

Avoid things like auto backup, auto picture optimizer, auto media convertor, they mostly only work "automatic" when a win soft has been installed.

Try to find one that is powered by the USB cable only (power saving and power independant), these normally have all their needs in their firmware.

I have a StoreJet Transcend 500GB (2.5" and comes in a classy black slim case) and it runs perfectly both on the X1000 and as a NAS on my router.

Contrary to Raziels advice if you are using an extrnal disk drive (as opposed to flash / SSD drive) it's probably better that it is or can be seperately powered. I have a ThinkPad 20Gb drive that works okay, so long as the usb lead is kept short and a usb2 lead is used (ir with appropriate shielding for the higher speeds).

Early ipods also work well.

What about an HD Docking station, something like
this one?
This way you can put in almost any type of HD you own,
work very well on my A1 and NEC USB2 interface
