X1000 won't turn off
Just popping in
Just popping in

See User information
Hi,

I've recently had the problem with my X1000 that I can't turn it off except by flicking the switch on the PSU. Previously, when I tapped the power button on the front of the case, it turned off after a few seconds. Now that doesn't happen, and even holding down the power button for several seconds doesn't turn it off.

I also sometimes have the problem that it doesn't turn on on the first press of the power button. Is this likely to be a motherboard or a PSU problem?

It could also be the power switch itself.

I would proceed like this:

1. check the CR2032 Battery on the board, test
2. check the power switch, and made sure it makes contact on the MoBo pins, test
3. connect a PSU which is know to work, test
4. Ask here again, someone more knowledgable might be of help
5. Contact AmigaKit or someone in a trusted electronics repair shop. (If something like a repair shop still exists. Because of subspace time-jumps I sometimes forget which year we are living in. )

@Tuvok

Thanks for the tips. I should have mentioned that I tried bypassing the power button on the case by shorting the power button pins on the motherboard, but the symptoms were the same.

Good idea, I wasn't going to suggest that, because it could be risky if someone doesn't have steady hands.

Try the battery.

And also

6. try to disconnect the computer form the mains, also turn off every peripheral, wait for 30seconds to 1 minute and then reconnect everything.

it happened to my X1000 two weeks ago, it was the CR2032 battery,
it was completely flat, once changed all was OK
