@vulture
Thanks for the hint, an interesting program, but at first glance it is not what i need. When i remove (a non frozen task) a lot of resources it uses are taken out of memory, but its window is not removed

That action is not supported because it leaves the entire OS in an indeterminate state. Yes, it is even possible (not likely) that your hard drive is corrupted from doing stuff like that. You have been warned...

Because of the reason detailed by ssolie, I never close a frozen window and sometimes don't play with grimreaper as that can be the way to freeze not only one program but all the system.
I prefer waiting and soft reset.
Ssolie, is it planned that the OS4 system supports a way to freeze or kill a task ?

Since a lot of months without an amiga to love, I was lost.
Now I feel happiness again with a Sam Flex 800 .

A certain other Amiga-like OS supports safely closing the window of crashed programs, and I have to say it's probably the single feature I miss having in AmigaOS4.

"Safely closing" the window MIGHT mean simply hiding it from the user - it would presumably still be present in memory to some degree.

An OS like AOS or clones is always in that state. There is no other state.

I will not support such a feature because it only makes the system more unstable. Something crashed and you need to reset soon. There is no other way out.

Instead of users lying to themselves (e.g. forced closing of windows you don't own) I think it is better to remind them they need to save their work and prepare for a reset.

If/when proper resource tracking is in place we will of course support such a feature. Until then, 3rd party utilities which make your system even more unstable and potentially your destroy data will have to do.

I don't know way can't we just hide the window, keep the rastport, keep the bitmap, this way any program that writes into an other programs rastport, won't crash or corrupt the system, just saying.

@JosDuchlt

Exorcist does that of course, but so does scout from the windows list.
