fxscan 4.0
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

See User information
I did find back my fxscan 4.0 CD
It was announced as having a morphos version , and an native OS4.0 was to be announced.

I guess this did not happen?

On the CD there seems to be a PPC version using

fxWARP3.library

Has anybody this software running under OS4 ?

many thanks. In fact i was most after fxscan's OCR possibilities.
It works great. Grabbing text with SGrab and then converting it with fxscan works much better than with the most recent gocr.

That's quite strange because according to the docs fxscan uses gocr and probably an older version (or it just detects the new one)
Anyway the learning process was much faster (or maybe it used the results of my previous painstaking efforts to create a gocr data base
I'll try to verify that using Snoopy

I do get a big Guru meditation when starting the program though, and a freeze (something with a warp.library i think.) when closing

I have been trying to get rid of the guru

I noticed in the install logfile
Run Program: "copy Datas:Graphics/fxSCAN/fxSCAN ram:lpac"
Run Program: "c/cpatch ram:lpac patches/fxSCAN.020FPU.patch Datas:Graphics/fxSCAN/fxSCAN"

I also get patched the files in ocr/

engine
engineppc.elf
engineppc.mos
engineppc.wos

and the files in PPC/

fxSCANMOS.elf
fxSCANPPC.elf
fxSCANWOS

and also noticed
Copy file "fxWARP3.library" to "LIBS:".
Copy file "fxWARP_MemGuard" to "C:".

I therefor copied fxSCANPPC.elf as fxscan in the main drawer (replacing the 68l executable) and renamed ocr/enginppc.elf as ocr/engine

fxscan then just did not start not from theicon nor ftom the CLI

8.Datas:Graphics/fxSCAN> stack 1000000
8.Datas:Graphics/fxSCAN> fxscan
8.Datas:Graphics/fxSCAN>

gives me this (from the icon launch) and this is not dependent on fxwarp files in c: and libs: being present or not.

Howlong is the fxscan executable you use?

here it is 513572 bytes, it has no version string, but clearly is an elf-executable.

OK thanks; that's the 68k executable i thinK
Problem is that neither the initial 4.0 install nor the update ask you anything about the OS and don't seem to detect what you are using
What you use is probably what i used first and tried to improve upon (get rid of the guru and freeze when closing after OCR usage)
It is what you get when you install 4.0 first (and don't touch its install, then make the update to 4.06 (strange that the version still says 4.05, but probably there is no 68k version 4.06)
I guess that you might have lost the warp files in c: and libs: with an OS update ?

I guess you can under oS4.1 either stick to the 68k executable use the PPC.elf version or even the WOS version

the "fxWARP3.library" is not an ELF library and
"fxWARP_MemGuard" in "C:" is not an ELF library executable

Are they used with the 68k fxscan? pobably not since you don't have them.
I do remember having error messages referring to "wos" when doing OCR work, Would the 68k OCR engine use this library?I might be remembering this wrongly though.
Can you confirm that OCR is working for you ? No freezes?
Can you confirm the following info

PPC/ drawer
fxSCANMOS.elf 531040 no version info
fxSCANPPC.elf 513572 version 4.05
fxSCANWOS 47140 no version info

ocr/ drawer
engineppc.elf 386436
engine 261724
engineppc.mos 388644
engineppc.wos 484320

no version info for any of those
