@nexus
Its usually the first error that's most significant, obviously without the full error I can't be positive, but awk was probably looking for pthreads and whatever caused it to fail caused the pthreads error.

At a guess as a new user of Amiga OS the subversion checkour hanging was probably either a stack or he hadnt started abc-shell (or both), as for ssh the problem I always had was I could ssh to a server but then couldnt ssh from there to another (or su to root).

but for this to work you would need a software shutdown feature in the OS. And judging by an old thread (here or on AW.net) there was many people against this idea because a "true Amiga should always be shutdown'able by a simple press on the power button at anytime"...
PS: hm I almost forgot : Happy New Year !!
Not really, the point of the software shutdown is to make everything do a save before the power goes, I would suggest that what needs to happen is that a trigger to save everything needs to happen, it's unlikely to be effective until apps get updated, but one way of doing it would be to get running apps to "register" with application.library (in a similar way as was described for screensaver triggering etc), with a "save current status" function that would get called by the application.library when the apcupsd triggered it. You would have the benefit of still being able to just turn off in this case, but would rely on application programmers to register this. Mark

@Amigo1 Ebooks can be encrypted, but you would never be able to read them on an Amiga, given that there would be no clients capable of reading them. This is not to mention the extra cost of producing an encrypted ebook (and the entire ethos of encrypted ebooks being wrong go here: www.mobileread.com if you want to discuss this more). Self published unencrypted ebooks can be provided/bought here: www.smashwords.comMark

one obvious solution thats nice and easy is to buy a pair of ethernet over power adaptors and run it that way, much easier, more secure and more reliable to be honest...

Remember there are two parts to Remote Desktop the client and the server, the client connects to other machines and the server allows you machine to be connected to. Sounds like you have started the client. What you need to do is right click on My COmputer/properties and follow the instructions above (or go into Control panel/system to get to the same place) and set up the Server on your windows machine..

@Helgis
No parties here really, the only browsers that support the version of HTML5 video that youtube is currently using (h.264) is Safari and Chrome, Firefox wont help because they only support Ogg.
Presumably if OWB were set-up to use h.264 as well (as previously mentioned if gstreamer gets integrated) then OWB would work, but not before then.

@magic
If you are serious I would suggest you look at libpurple and instantbird.
libpurple is the library that pidgeon uses for IM, InstantBird is a GUI written using the Mozilla rendering engine, but the time you have libpurple done the AOS mozilla project should have yeilded something so the GUI should be quite simple.
With libpurple you get all the IM channels included (which amounts to just about everything).

I find that highly unlikely, the most likely scenario is that there will be numerous 2nd hand machines (A1XE's etc) for sale that will take care of some of that low-mid range area.

Well done, I'd say this is probably one of the more important developments for AOS4, will this be ablt to work with the UnixOBDC driver built into PHP? (ie Edgar's port of PHP)?

@orgin
Not sure if this is entirely the right/correct place to suggest this or not, but here goes:
Given that I (and I know of at least one other), use filer as an IDE type application (find your file click to edit etc.) I was wondering if w could have an SVN plugin for it with all the usual features (import/checkout/browse etc), or would be better as an FTPMount style application? (yes I'm aware there is a command line svn for AOS4, but wanted something a bit more user friendly).

@Hans Quote: Hans wrote:
I do think that postscript should become the print format of choice, and that ghostscript is used to rasterize it to any printer format. This can already be done, but it's not seamlessly integrated into the printing system. Other than that, we just need more drivers. I've personally decided to look for a printer that understands postscript next time that I buy a printer; they're more expensive, but that way I sidestep the whole printer driver issue.
Hans
That was the point to be honest, gutenprint provides a more up-to-date list of printer drivers than ghostscript alone. It also provides the IJS driver to ghostscript. So my suggestion was Amiga App|Amiga Postscript driver ->Ghostscript ->gutenprint driver ->printer. Personally I dont need it as I have a colour HP laser that is postscript so I get pretty good quality anyway. And I agree Postscript should be the default which then gets converted as necessary. Mark

Chris, years ago, has explained that on the Poseidon ML. Chris has been enough skilled to do a bluetooth stack and after ask to bluetooth to right to use and they ask lots of money !!! too bad for the amiga).
They may very well have asked for a ton of money years ago, all Im saying is that now the licence is open source (GPL2). You can download the full source for one of the linux bluetooth stacks here: http://www.bluez.org/download/You dont need a licence or to pay for this, you "may" need a licence to use the bluetooth logo, but to be honest who needs that... @Mrodfr I dont know abou tyears ago, BUT wikipedia has this to say: Quote: Bluetooth is an open wireless protocol for exchanging data over short distances from fixed and mobile devices, creating personal area networks (PANs). It was originally conceived as a wireless alternative to RS232 data cables. It can connect several devices, overcoming problems of synchronization.
the key there is "open standard" Mark

because as most people involved will know, the Amiga print system is flawed, by using Gutenprint/Ghostscript you output in Postscript and convert to the best the printer can do.
