Re: AmiUpdate 2.50
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Just now I tested this on fresh Sam460le AOS4.1fe upd2 installation:

AmiUpdate: 2.49 - 2.1.2022
Updates (prefs): 53.8 - 8.1.2013
AmiSSL I updated manually to last os4depot version
Manually created Sitelist ( the same like I have on other machines )

- Updates prefs allways crash when I save changes - with DSI in module newlib.library.kmod
- but preferences should be edited manually in envarc:sys/update.prefs
- and cannot update AmiUpdate to ver.2.5, like Maijestro reported

so there are at least two issues - missing file ( or wrong connection, etc..) and crashing preferences

Please, which PCIe sound cards for Sam460le are compatible both with AmigaOS and MorphOS?
On compatibility pages I found only this: Envy24HT PCIe

Unfortunatelly is very hard to found one. Yes, I can use different cards for testing, the same way like with graphics cards. Maybe I can use PCI catd with PCIe-PCI bridge or PCIe switch, but the best will be one PCIe.

Not too shy to talk

After reading the last Amigafuture, I had to try Astromenace game.
It is nice, with great sound:

My computers sorted here acc play speed:

1. X1000 + HD7970 - 1080/32, highest details, perfectly playable: 51-21 FPS
2. Pegasos 2 / 1.33 GHz + MorphOS + Radeon 9800 Pro, 1080/32, highest details: playable 18.7-15.3 FPS, for perfect play is needed to reduce details a little bit
3. Mac Mini / 1.833 GHz + MorphOS + Radeon 9200, 1080/32, highest details: nearly playable 18.3-14 FPS, but not smooth, for perfect play is needed to reduce details a little more

Pegasos 2 not tested under AmigaOS, used gfx card has no hw accel with AmigaOS 4.

The rest are unplayable, results are with low details:
4-5. Sam440ep-flex / 733 MHz + R9 270X, 9.0-4.4 FPS
4-5. AmigaOne XE / 1400 MHz + Radeon 9000 Pro, 5.7 FPS stable
6. Sam 440ep / 666 MHz ) + Radeon M9, 6.8 - 3.0 FPS

With this game better graphics card counts: Pegasos 2 / 1.3 outperforms Mac Mini / 1.83 and Sam440ep-flex / 733 is equal with XE / 1400.

Nice game, thanks to BSzili, Beworld, Sinan Gurkan and others!

Edit:
Micro A1-C: not works
Powermac G5 Quad not tested yet, I have cooling issues.
And thx @AmigaSociety for video

Works like a charm and is much faster then a RX560.

It's not really loud. At least I can hardly hear it when my tower is closed. Have it always on high power.

@geennaam
I am using this boot scheme a long time.

On Pegasos 2 I have:
- Internal IDE: CFCard, SFS/FFS partition with /Kickstart directory + amigaboot.of ( and also boot.img for MorphOS and kernels for linux )
- PCI SATA SSD - everything other, ie. SYS:, Work: ...

only I have to synchronize /Kickstart directories on CF and SYS: - it can be made by link or by copying of kickstart modules.

This is universal solution for all hw platforms, where firmware not supported boot from newer devices or filesystems, but operating system does. Pegasos cannot boot from PCI SATA.
I am using it also on AmigaOne XE / Micro, which can theoretically boot from PCI SATA, but sometimes it has isuues.

@imagodespira

yes, you are right.

X1000 can normally play 720p with sw decoding, depending on codec with 70-100% CPU utilization.
X1000 + Radeon v.5 + UVD hw decoding plays 720p with cca 10% CPU utilization.

And majority of FullHD (1080p) is unplayable even with UVD. Only few videos are OK - sorry, I am not remember the codecs.

Frank is using his X1000 with the RX550 and it works fine.
I would miss the warm start of AmigaOS, so i currently use my RadeonHD 7750 (with the older driver, because warm start is missing in newer drivers?).

But Frank reported no problems with this RX card to me.

These two videos are a little bit confusing for video performance comparison.
Both RX and R7 should play video with with hw acceleration - UVD/VAAPI. But video with R7 has no active hw acceleration, it has software decoding only.

I have X1000 with HD7970 and hardware accelerated Emotion works fine here. But I have to say, while you can use RX+UVD with Enhancer only, for HD ( and R7/R9 ) you need Enhancer plus new RadeonHD v.5.

But overall, I agree than RX card are more powerful than HD/R7/R9.

You better hang on to your PegII as it will most likely outperform the A1222+ by a wide margin.

Pegasos 2 is my first and still most loved AmigaNG.
His CPU power is still very good, especially my G4 1.33 GHz overclocked version.

But it is old machine today - only IDE or PCI/SATA 150 disks, in most cases only 1 GB DDR RAM and especially old graphics card ( Radeon 9000 Pro for AmigaOS 4, Radeon 9800 Pro for MorphOS and linux ) on PCI 66 MHz bus.
And yes, Pegasos has Altivec and ppc FPU, A1222 not.

A1222+ can use much more modern Polaris cards, has hw accelerated video and can use Warp3DNova and OGLES2. Pegasos not. All this new graphics stack made by Hans and others is big step forward. So if you need modern games ( kas1e made many nice ports ) and watch HD video, A1222 is far better.

And even Sam440ep-flex is much better computer with Radeon SI card + Warp3D Nova compares to his default configuration with PCI Radeon 9250. You can even play there Doom3 from HunoPPC

I am participant of early adopter and I had AAA package. At November 20th I received email from Laurent with the same offer like bigmac wrote here.

We exchanged several emails, communication was fine and I completed the order.

from cfe point of view it is port 0.0 and port 0.1
from Nemo manual point of view it is port 0 and port 2

if you have DVD connected to SATA port 2 ( i.e. factory default ), the command should be:

boot -fs=iso atapi0.1:amigaboot.of

X1000 can boot only from SATA ports 0 and 2.

@billt

it is very strange. "menu" command should be in list of available commands. And in your list it is missing.

Did you try boot from second BIOS? According to Nemo TRM manual, there are two chips:
Quote:

2.8 BIOS Dual serial flash EPROM chips are provided to hold the BIOS code.
Jumpers are used to choose between them.
The BIOS code is maintained by Hyperion.

8.2.1 BIOS Flash Selection JP1 is used to select which flash EPROM is used for CPU booting.
In postion 1-2, it selects the normal flash image.
In position 2-3 it selects the rescue flash image.
Note that it is possible to corrupt the rescue flash image.
This jumper should only ever be moved to position 2-3 in an emergency, and instructions for recovering the normal flash image should be followed with great care.

Unfortunatelly I have no instructions for rescue Bios image. Maybe somebody here has them.

@rjd324
Hi,

in AmigaOne X1000 today I am using this card:
XFX Radeon HD 7970 Black Edition Dual Fan (FX-797A-TDBC) with Tahiti chip - it is one of the fastest SI card

in past I successfully tested:
VTX3D HD 7970 X-Edition (VX7970-3GBD5-2DHX) with Tahiti chip
PowerColor Devil R9 270X with Curacao chip

and also one mid-end HD7750 with Cape Verde chip - but unfortunately I am not remember exact type, it was some ASUS. But different HD7750 types very differs in AmigaOS 2D/3D real speed even it has same or similar frequencies - tested with Sam440ep.
