@Slayer

I use the modem I got from NTL along with one of these to connect it to my A1 and PC.

The boards that should be available this summer will be aimed at developers and maybe very serious end users. For these types getting OS 3.x on it will not be a problem.

Hopefully some of these dev boards will be used for AROS developers so that if a consumer version ever appears it will not headache of dealing with Amiga Inc.

@moijk

An A1200 or A4000 with PPC, graphics, Sound and Network cards may actually cost more than an A1 and will not run your software as fast.

Seriously though, the court case was the final straw for me. I sold my A1 a wee while back.

Still can't stop dropping by the usual sites to see whats going on in the hope that it all comes good though!

Cheers

James

That's a load of rubbish. The real reason you sold your A1 is because it was too cool for Dwain Dibley.

I would mind seeing a phone that ran Amiga OS but not this Amiga Anywhere tripe.

And don't forget that the (new) ppc will cost around 500 euros (give or take). Then you will need a tower case, mediator, gfx etc. So we are talking for a cost around 1000 euros.

Many people already have the rest of the required hardware and just need the SharkPPC.

I think that you should replace "can't work" with "does not work properly". As stated elseware, apart from the occasional crash, Heretic II and Wipeout 2097 run well on the July update.

It is only really for these two pieces of software that you need WarpOS support. I think Rogue said that there would be an OS4 native version of Shogo but not H2, and most other software already has a native version or there was a 68k build.

I think it would be nice to make the libraries available to Classic owners to run at their own risk.

Are there technical reason preventing WarpOS support ever working properly with OS4 or is it a question of priorities.

Is there any chance of releasing the source code so that others can pick up from where you left it.

Payback isn't quite perfect here, the textures don't alway display properly on some of the cars and trees, nothing that spoils the game though.

Shogo also has some graphical glitches too and only runs in software render mode. I think

Wipeout 2097 and Heretic 2 work nicely with Radeon here on the latest update too.

There are OS4 native versions of Quake 2 and Freespace although they are software only.

I think the OS4 Voodoo drivers should work on the Classic hardware but drivers that require DMA won't. You can use Elbox's drivers if you want to run network, TV and Sound Blaster cards but you must not run the OS4 PCI drivers at the same time.

Titan was only the publisher. Acube will presumably act as the publisher for Hyperion's ports in the future.

Maybe if we pester Richard Drummond he'll get around to finishing Gorky 17 sometime soon, I don't think there's anything else in the pipeline at the moment.

From Elbox's site with regard to all A3/4000 Mediators

Quote:
DMA to A3/4000 motherboard spaceMediator PCI 4000 includes a busmastering controller supporting transfers between PCI cards and the A3/4000 motherboard space.

Can anyone explain what this means. Is it misleading information or is Elbox holding back on certain documentation.

I disagree. The BPPC SCSI board is not as fast as the CSPPC

if your drive reads 2.5 MB/s (IDE PIO0, SCSISpeed just
reported that for my A4k IDE drive in OS4) or 5MB/s
(IDE PIO something or SCSI non-sync) or 10MB/s (SCSI sync),
you need a stopwatch to find out if the machine boots faster
or loads application X faster, you dont notice much
difference without a stopwatch or a benchmark test.
Corrections welcome...

The extra CPU cycles afforded by by DMA enabled SCSI drivers might make the difference when playing back audio or video from hard disk on such low end systems.

I think SCSI support is imortant to people who have invested time and money in their SCSI setup.

@Paul

I originally had 256MB in my A1 and wanted to upgrade a couple of years ago. I was using Micron and had a look at their site and found a 512MB module was about ?90, so I decided to have a look on Ebay instead.

I managed to get a pair of 512MB buffered Micron module for ?46 including the postage and packaging from the US.
