Hi @colinw
And for the original poster,... Just a human from Earth, oh great Thor !
...the first (hex) one represents the checksum of the text inside the file, the second (decimal) part is the week number when it was written... Oh wow, thanks very much Colin! That's what my Python File Manager was wanting to know!
@xenic I also keep my system partition write protected as a security measure against accidental changes to that partition... Thanks for the info and ideas on AppDir control!

@Skov
Is it really all about 3d and shooters? Any 'shooters' is not exactly entertaining for me. Now, poker is! My hobby on the A1 is poker. Also play a lot Yahoo online poker. Chess and billiards are also favorites.

What do you guys think? Would the 'Paper - Rock - Scissors' decision engine work? =:o
Have you thought about giving your "old" AmigaONE up, when the new machine is here? A "Rock" solid NO. I'm going to save my "Paper" money for awhile. I'll give the X1000 a year's trial before even thinking about a purchase. My A1 is good for another year!

Hi @Rigo
OK, thanks. I missed that the in the list of new DOS features: Update 1 of AmigaOS 4.1: DOS A new mechanism for launching preset programs for specific tasks, such as email clients and web-browsers (URLopen). Application tracking for ease of program location (AppDir: handler). Improved shared object support with significantly decreased loading times.

@logicalheart and all- You just necroed a thread that was nearly 3 years old - is that some kind of record?!?
Maybe, but I postponed it for a time! Over a year ago, I decided to give it a try: http://www.iogear.com/product/GCS62/ It's a two port VGA, keyboard, and PS2 mouse setup. Scroll Lock key latching. Works fine with a PC with XP Pro. I chose PS2 because Dell XP and A1 have wobbly USB mice! The KVM will switch the PC to highest VGA screen mode regardless of settings. I've lost switching using Hibernation Mode. All in all, it works!

The files DvPlayer, IBrowse,TuneNet, and Yam appear in directory Sys:Prefs/Env-Archive/AppDir after install. I can't find any documentation on the purpose of this except the obvious labeling of a directory for Applications-Apps. However, this directory list is over three hundred files today! It appears that anything was executed on this A1, since OS4.1 Update1 was installed, was recorded to this location. For example:
ClickToFront 25 ----rw-d Tuesday 11:45:21 : <0xB49595DB_11783> CLI 10 ----rw-d Tuesday 11:57:24 : <0x6F1A1695_11783> Cinnamon Writer 10 ----rw-d Tuesday 11:57:57 : <0x6F01EB69_11783> Charsetconvert 5 ----rw-d Tuesday 11:45:22 : <0x0004DE13_11783>
I'm interested in what's doing this and why? Second, what's that number in the 'file comment' saying; physical address? Third, do I have any control over this? Yellow-Alert?

@unimon
The harddisk got suddenly a checksum error. I'd be interested in the filesystem of your bootup drive and HD make. I have FFS2 and WDs here set at DMA 3 and never had any problems. I tried DMA 4 once and saw read errors, so DMA 3 is the top setting. Right, you tested your HD configurations before living with them?

Hi @ChrisH
Just like ... Directory Opus 5/Magellan... Nah, it reminds me of Martin Elsner's "ClassAction". That was my file manager of choice in OS 3.9. The "Filer" has moved beyond that; it's classier!
First thing you will probably want to do is tick "Reverse source/dest button"... Love this new preference! Now, I can throw away DirOpus! =:o

@JOS #127 Wow... My DVD-burner is a Plextor PX-820SA... Xfer mode : best pio 12 (PIO 4, 16 MB/s) / best dma 69 (UDMA 5, 100 MB/s) / current 69 (UDMA 5, 100 MB/s)... That's your best pio 12 (PIO 4, 16 MB/s)... Why? Read this: http://www.intuitionbase.com/static.php?section=notes- UDMA is currently completely disabled for ATAPI devices (CD|DVD readers|burners), this is because it could not be made safe for a1ide, and this limit was not removed yet in the si680 code. In other words, as of now, your ATAPI devices will only get PIO modes. But no worry, it will come soon for si680....S.GuillardEdit: Anyone hear any news on that limit, or again missed something?

Hi @desler
From this version and forwards CW do no longer rely on SDL and all operations are now native. SDL and Update1 have been clashing a lot here. This sounds great! Still haven't figured why the a CW assign still fails. Yep, never had a assign failure with anything until CW. It's a total mystery, but I'll give a go with the new version! BTW, I',m not using Update1, so I'll let know how it develops plain OS4.1...

@ thread If i put Michael Merkel's idea down as a good one and added 'kas1e''s idea of where to send it. Now that starts to sound like a bug management system.
BTW, '@kas1e', don't use the initials HP to refer to Hyperion. HE might be a better identification reference, if HE doesn't mind !

Hi @saimo
#40 BOH's resolution is 320x240: Why? I really have a hard time believing this! That's a horrible visual restriction. I write and play games in SDLBasic all the time and I can have the max 1024x768 via SDL without any problems. But, since Update1 the fps took a serious change because of the video updates. Now if Andrea (afxgroup) where to recompile a new SDLBasic release( last one was 2006), I would be twice blessed and living in Shangri La and using Update1. (Hint, hint!)

Hi @orgin
Sorry, I haven't been keeping up; haven't went beyond 53.28 - the last known version to work outside Update1. edit: April 7 I got off my 'loaf' and got back to reality of OS4.1 Update1! Wow, Filer is certainly impressive. The Drag&Drop and Thumbnails features are great. Thanks for the Prefs setting: Reverse Source/Destination device labels. All in all, nice one Orgin!!

If he really does have uboot v0.1.1, it could be one of the old write protected chip...
Yes, that was original UBoot delivered with this A1 in April 2003. I had to get the new flashable UBoot chip from Compuquick, Ohio.

Hi @afxgroup Andrea, I'm a fanatic of SDLBasic that you ported to OS4 sometime ago (2006?). Since OS4 Update1 that program runs horribly. Even using Peter Gordon's updates has no effect. The big killer of the system is the mouse. The mouse locks up the system so bad, I have to reset by tower switch. The other big killer is the video frames/sec. The new screen routines of Update1 have severly slowed down the SDLBasic display. After reading through this thread I've concluded that SDLBasic program is really behind the times. Is it possible to that you can do an update SDLBasic? I'd be willing to donate towards that! Because of SDLBasic problems, I don't use Update1.
Hi @Raziel Man, you are genius You and all the others working on the dream OS Thank you so much .
I second that!!

@ferrels
I want to try Scalos when I get a chance...
I thought desktop replacements were a thing-of-the-past when the 68K Amigas when WBs were poor? The OS4 Workbench is much more richer and advanced now. No disrespect to anyone, but Scalos isn't a good idea on OS4; it's kind of bee-hind the times and stings too. I thought some of the window themes by Ken Lester Jr. from his AFA-OS works were a good idea. I translated a few of them and they make nice desktop enhancements. These window themes allowed for quick change of frames and gadgets via the OS system Prefs-GUI. Hey, ContextMenus is a great feature added to the current WB. So why do you want WB replacements?
Not tested neither one. I don't need WB replacement, just better WB :)
There you go!

Hi @ChrisH
It requires OS4.1 Update 1. Do you have that? Oh wow, I didn't see that! To be truthful, OS4.1 Update 1 had a life span of one week here and I went backwards, gak. Why? I use SDLBasic a lot and the new display drivers in UD1 and SDLBasic are in conflict. The SDL display was so slow that it's was intolerable ; a lot of IO conflict with the mouse, so severe that I was constantly resetting the system from the tower reset! I think SDLBasic is out-of-date with OS upgrades huh?
