Re: How many SAM's have been sold?

@ChrisH Quote: I hope with Update 1 coming sooooon (honest guv), and X1000 showing that better machines cost rather more (probably), and Firefox & Blender ports coming, that we will actually see a lot more Sam440 sales this year (from "fence sitters").
To improve SAM sales, the price of the X1000 had better be much higher than that of a complete SAM system. If the difference were mere 300-400 dollars, I guess people would rather go for the X1000 because it offers a completely different level of performance.

No way! Software download counts from OS4depot will give you a clue - my estimation is that no more than 600 SAMs have been sold so far.

I know this doesn't help sort out your particular problem to much but I registered DVPlayer a few months back. He (Stephen Fellner) emailed me the full version to my specified email address within a day of registering.
Same experience.

I didn't get that either, could somebody be any more specific? I'm trying to run AW under OS4.1, installed from the original CD. All I get is an About window with no text in it, and an AmigaWriter window that is empty except for two small buttons with no text. EDIT: Solved now, just changed locale's preferred language to plain "english".

I can also recommend CubicIDE. It's much more than just a programmer's editor!

No it does not. I have a SanDisk Cruzer Mini 128MB stick here, which gets identified (USB attachment shows the correct manufacturer and model info) but does not show as a disk on the Workbench.

@xenic
These are all valid points. Changes are being made to application.library so I guess the OS developers have access to the source code, otherwise they wouldn't be able to update it.
But it would really be nice to hear that from the developers.

@xenic Quote: Just don't have application library stuff unwanted icons in my AmiDock or tools in my WorkBench Tools menu with no configuration option to turn off that behavior. I delete any programs that do that. Personally, I'm not to fond of application.library because it can force unwanted changes on me.
Registering a program with application.library does not add any icons in either AmiDock or the Workbench screen, unless the programmer tells the program to do so. The library itself does not force any changes on you.

@cha05e90
It's an old piece software so yes, the user interface is topaz-ish and no, it can't be changed. As far as I understand, the UI stuff was pretty much hardcoded back then, that's why Deron went with MUI in the subsequent Amiga versions.
I have PgS 5.0.3.3 for OS4 installed here, it sort of works so you can give it a try and have a look (if you've bought PgS for AmigaPPC, it should be in your downloads section).

You are both right, PgS 4.1.5.6 runs fine with JIT enabled. I was mistaken.

PgS 4.1.5.6 for 68K, with JIT disabled in the Compatibility prefs program.

Just a bit of a heads-up from the PageStream mailinglist (posted yesterday night by the author):
"I have been lax in putting out some new updates, only because of ongoing work on the Amiga. I'm trying to get all the platforms up to par by the end of December, and that time is coming up on me fast!"

Thanks for that. I don't really understand what you mean though. ( im abit of a novice ) A more in depth guide to get this right would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!
All Amiga files carry a set of "protection bits" that specify whether a particular file can be read, written to, executed, or deleted. For instance, if the Delete bit is unset, the file cannot be deleted; if Execute is unset, the file cannot run as a program (the OS will consider it some kind of a data file). Protection bits can be set/unset using the Protect command (found in C:), or using a filemanager such as DirectoryOpus.

@Amiga1200Mark Quote: So I will just need to install MPlayer and WGet which I think are on OS4depot...
There's a newer version of Wget at http://amiga.sourceforge.net. However, for some reason the executables in the archive do not have the Executable protection bit set so you'll have to set it yourself (otherwise Wget won't run and programs using it - such as getvideo - will fail).

@kolla
I don't see much of a problem with the MorphOS requester. OK, the folder images are not necessary (directories can as well be distinguished by a different colour, like in the AmigaOS filerequester) but otherwise it's a well-designed piece of GUI. Directory tree navigation buttons are grouped together, put in a logical place (ABOVE the dir/file list because they MANAGE the list), and separately from requester function buttons (Ok/Cancel).
