Re: Max. partition size in AmigaOS4.1 (SFS2 handler)

@geennaam

it looks like the partition with jfxs is locked during boot 4.1FE as rw. It can only be ro.
I recently checked this.

@Maijestro
Yes , I think it is currently better to make a patch and I will send you. I will also put it on github. The current version is not suitable for uploading to the repository. It is an open project and out of respect for the author of the code, every modification should be available and not hidden in a cupboard.

@joerg
You are right I think the cdrom image is missing.
In QEMU in this case "-cdrom <name_image>" is sufficient. No need to add the device directly.

Additionally, if qemu with git - no additional sound card "-device es1370" is needed. VIA card emulation is set in the hardware configuration and works.

@Capehill

I also checked testaudiocapture in the test directory with the SDL2 source when he filed the problem @trixie.
I didn't write about it because I checked on the old SDL2 sources and thought that was the problem.
I don't know what SDL2 sources Morphos uses but the version in morphos-store pt2clone has the same problem.

Thanks @Capehill for checking

and as for the pt2clone itself the mod problem with the export should be able to be fixed with the use of.
https://aminet.net/package/mus/edit/mod2wav
It works better than the export itself implemented in pt2clone and it should be possible to adapt it

@kas1e

You might want to check out LakeSnes - very cool little emulator and simple.
I use it sometimes on pc/86 or mac/arm. It scales the image nicely.
It's a bit resource intensive - on a qemu it's not usable. Maybe on some X5000 it will work fine

Currently I have blocked these two things. The theme is not the last solution, but it is better not to cause problems until possible improvement.
I tried to hide it , that is samples blocked only when selecting sample and MOD2WAV only when approving. It will not be so striking to those people who have no intention of using it.
The rest of the functionality should work. Sorry for the problems.

I will ask @Maijestro to edit the post with new files : https://www.amigans.net/modules/newbb/ ... id=144339#forumpost144339
so as not to litter the forum.
Also a request for @trixie to check if everything is working now. He is probably the most knowledgeable person on the PT topic - thank you for your help.

I do not use windows. I am not able to tell you where it can be accessed

Okay, I got an explanation on the video mode. The mplayer port H2 uses uses SDL1, and the mplayer port used in H2 uses SDL1 (the game itselves doesn't). It has some other options for video replay, but none of the other options offers fullscreen.

If you have the option use ffplay. It should solve the problem Qemu pegasos 2 G4 - is ns SDL2 and is based on ffmpeg.
It should work on any Amiga.

If I were you I would wait a bit until this driver is released and then reassess the situation, we don't know what impact this driver will have for Qemu and AmigaOs4.1

Not everyone will buy it. It is better to make the game work on any hardware and not make it dependent on the driver. As @TheMagicSN wrote - it even works acrually on Qemu already.

@Maijestro

You have to ask @trixie if this version meets his current expectations. He is probably the most involved in the topic to make pt2-clone work as well as possible.
It is possible that he has already compiled a better version himself.
Updating a not fully working version every few days on os4depot is probably not the best idea.

As you offered QEmu knowledge I already have one question - is it possible to "enlarge" an img file to have more harddrive space ? or can i mount two images instead of just one, for more partitions ? Thanks in advance.

I think your questions have already been answered by @Maijestro.
We will add only disk enlargement I would do manually. Definitely before all the fun backup the current disk. Made a new larger disk, I would transfer the data from disk to disk by booting the system at system startup from cdrom.
Pegasos will boot from the new disk for sure. I recently played with JXFS as the main disk out of curiosity . From bboot it boots without any problem like a system partition but only as "ro" - this is only what AOS4.1 FE allows. This topic is obviously not related to what you asked - I gave as an example.
If you have the opportunity I would compile QEMU option "lto -O3" and preferably under clang not gcc. It is possible that you will then get better results in benchamrk and comfort of work.

Re: Running my OS4 games on QEmu

@TheMagicSN

I'm very glad that you have taken an interest in people using Qemu.
I think that your ports can be an interesting alternative for people who need to use various emulations even unrelated to AOS4 to run older games.
If I will have AOS4 on Qemu and it is possible to run the new port (new ports are always more polished) why I would not have to try it

For example, I'll tell you for Christmas I want to play Tomb Raider 1. I have a Playstation and waiting for me for a long time bought Horizon Forbidden West (the one was great!!) but somehow the word "3dfx" on me like a thunderbolt ;-D
Horizon will wait. The same may be true for your ports.

If you need any help/testing on Qemu let me know. I don't mean after the whole program - a fragment or something to test. My knowledge is not too much but I'm happy to help.
I come from an open source environment - if the time devoted to it can give me joy, it will be a great honor for me if I can help others.

Best regards and good luck with further work.

Ok, I have changed the values in these lines - it is ok
I changed similarly SAVE SAMPLE and it seems ok

* - tomorrow I will have more time to check more mods and samples.

Is the Morphos version as you stated here
https://www.amigans.net/modules/newbb/ ... id=144224#forumpost144224

includes these fixes ? because on Morphos there were errors when exporting the sample mod as I sent you. On AOS4 it is already ok.

You're right - I also checked "MOD2WAV" -generates some nonsense - even without a wav file header.

Did you ever try to force XRick to use SDL_SWSURFACE (bitmaps in RAM) instead of SDL_HWSURFACE (bitmaps in VRAM)? Does it change anything?

SDL_SWSURFACE I have checked with vo_sdl in mplayer - without any additional tricks it did not do anything. defined here
https://github.com/khval/mplayer-amiga ... ab/src/libvo/vo_sdl.c#L46

To be sure, I will recompile the xrick with "SDL_SWSURFACE" and write if here the result.

EDIT: 9.11.2023

I have recompiled the test programs that are included in the SDL sources.
Simple programs and you can possibly change the add-on options. I don't have the xrick sources for sd1 on disk anymore and don't have much time to recompile them.
I am sure you are familiar with these test programs - if you need to test any of the options, please let me know.

https://ibb.co/7t4S8Lj

with "testpalette" forcing -hw (SDL_HWSURFACE) crashes my system.
I guess that means SDL_SWSURFACE is used all the time by Qemu and SM.
The SDL -hw hack works, but it definitely does not use SDL_HWSURFACE

All in all, after further consideration, I think there is probably no point in using the hack, but rather in fixing the cause of the problem as @balaton wrote.
At the most QEMU Pegasos 2 for the time being with G4 cpu emulation will work with problems until a possible solution of the problem.
As I wrote above - if you need to test something let me know.

thank you in advance for your help

@balaton
I understand this very well. But what should someone do who wants to compile code that is based on the old SDL1 ?
He has to keep waiting for something that someone can discover.... or it will not be fixed at all. He can possibly compile the program with the dynamic SDL1 library and in the future the old one with the "hack" will be replaced.
As @jorg wrote, dynamic libraries are not shared anyway.
That still leaves sdl12-compat possibly ...
You have to see it from the other side how I look at it

----------

Just a little more info for people who may come across this thread and read- QEMU, it doesn't work, it doesn't work well and they may misinterpret something.

There are currently three emulation machines on which you can run AmigaOS 4.1 FE.
sam460ex, pegasos2 and AmigaOneXE (not yet in the stable QEMU release as of 7.11.2023).
The current best performing one is the pegasos2. If the "machine" is run with a G4 processor (default value) I may experience problems with the SDL1 library.
You can run it with a G3 processor ( add the -cpu G3 option at startup) - then there are no problems with SDL1. It runs stably and possibly even faster in some cases.

AmigaOneXE emulation is mainly intended for people who own or have owned a real AmigaOneXE and have the operating system.
They then don't have to incur any costs to buy an operating system to run QEMU/AOS4 on their current hardware. I would add from myself - if there are one..five.... twenty former AOS4 users who can't own real PPC hardware and run the emulation, it will be a success.
On this emulation there are no problems with SDL1 with a G4 cpu.

*) information about AmigaOneXE comes from the maintainer of the above mentioned machines at QEMU - Zoltan Balaton
