Software News : New version of Cinnamon Writer available

Software News

It took a long time but finally: The latest version of Cinnamon Writer is available for download . desler.be

Cinnamon Writer (CW) is a WYSIWYG writer application under development. The main objective of CW is to be a small efficient word processor with the most often used features seen in other professional word processors.

See screenshots HERE

Version 0.5 is much faster than the previous version. It offers most of the basic and most often used functionality expected from a word processor (selectable fonts, font size, text alignment, line space, text color, highlight color, bullets, underline, super/subscript etc). The documents are saved in RTF format that ensures maximum compatibility with other word processors. At a later stage of development, other save formats will be available.
The icons set used in CW are the work of Martin "Mason" Merz (Thank you Martin)

I am also announcing the coming opening of Cinnamon Projects.
The purpose of Cinnamon Projects is to speed up the development of CW by utilizing some the very gifted coders on the amiga scene. Since I have come to the realization that writing an application like this single handedly, is near impossible, I have decided to use a larger part of the donations I have received and hopefully will continue to receive, to fund coders who are interested in contributing to the application. A new section will open on desler.be in the near future where different projects are announced together with the amount of money a coder will receive upon completion of the project.
An example of a project could be a printer class that will handle all the Amiga specific calls required to add printing capability to CW. The prize given upon completion will range from 50-150 euro depending on the scale of the project and of course, the amount of donations I have received

I haven’t been able to test this software on a classic AOS4 setup, so please let me know if a specific setup is not working. The stability of this version has not been throughout tested and the undo/redo feature is currently not available. Therefore save often and save different versions of your document when using CW!!

I really hope that you will find this application useful. Please don’t hesitate to report bugs/crashes/ideas and perhaps give donations/beer on desler.be

Finally... Donate. Scientific case studies have shown that people who donated experienced 33.4% fewer crashes

You need to select front or back. (Text color or highlight). Hope that helps :)

I got a grim reaper under OS4 when changing the font to symbol, ingoring DSI errors allowed it to continue but on exit I got constant recoverable alerts.
Prior to the grim reaper I had already exited Cinnamon once with no problems.

I just got a total lock-up when trying to work out how to use the text palette. I was using the readme.rtf file, and playing around with the options. First time I loaded that file I got a lock-up just selecting a paragraph. I'll try to create my own doc, and see what happens.

Nice GUI and doesn't reaper here, but on my setup everything is deadly slow, e.g. I can't type correctly even at a reasonable speed...
Just moving the mouse pointer eats a lot of cpu, so maybe there is something wrong with my setup (SDL version...) ?

@centaurz What system do you use? What screenmode do you use?

Im really interested in crash-logs. So if think you found a bug and have a crash log, please submit them on desler.be

Re: New version of Cinnamon Writer available
A couple of quick suggestions

1) A way to select the window size (tooltype maybe). The window is too tall for my screen and since the adjuster handle is below the screen I can't grab it to adjust it.

2) Menus. It's easier (for me anyway) to select Load of Save from a menu rather than try to figure out which icon is which.

Keep up the good work.

A better solution would be to check the screen size and adjust the window size accordingly.
