== THE AMIQUTE TOTALLY UNSENSIBLE CHALLENGE 2025 (TAQTUC) ==

So here is the proposal : We will host a challenge consisting in a run to port and create the most Qt6 software for AmigaOS4. It will take place over the next few months, and there will be points given and prizes taken. The points will be given by a panel of judges, and the prizes will be financed by the donations made through the AmiQute Ko-fi page. The more software we make, the more popular we are, the more donations will come, the more prizes will be available, the more motivation for creating more software etc. etc

== RULES ==

Contributions will be in the following categories:

* Feature additions to the qtbase module
* Porting of new Qt6 modules
* Porting of existing Qt5/6 applications
* Creation of new original Qt6 content

The points given will be based on the judges’ knowledge of the difficulty of the task, the quality of the execution, the appeal to the public etc. No guarantees are made that a difficult task will win the final prize, but we will greet and encourage the taking on of difficulties, especially when being made aware of them.

If competition is being taken on on some application or content, then the person/tag registered as first having posted a screenshot/video of a working version on his/her own computer will be registered as the winner of the points. Since there will have to be some measure of functionality, the condition for being given points will be that the module or feature runs sufficiently smoothly on one of the judges’ computers, but since this step could be delayed, there will be given points to the first posted measure of success (ie. screenshot). If these are measured very closely between competitors, the judges might choose to split the points or give equal points to each contestant. If collaboration is detected on some project, only up to a certain amount of points will be given, which are then split evenly or fairly between the collaborating entities.

If collaborative efforts are taken on, we strongly encourage collaborators to share their collaborative efforts through amigans or other media, where they are easy to follow. The score and general state of the competition, as known to the judges, will be shared and updated on amigans.net throughout the event.

== LICENSING ==

Please note that Qt6 is not free software. Work on Qt6 for AmigaOS takes place under the LGPL, and therefore anyone contributing to this challenge must share their source code in appropriate ways, preferably by forking or submitting it on github. The sources must be 100% public and it should be obvious and transparent where they originate from and who are the original contributors. If in doubt, please ask in amigans or by PM to anyone on the AmiQute team.

== PRIZES ==

Since this event is going to take place dynamically, and because of its reliance on donations, the final prizes are not going to be announced at this point. But rest assured, that we are going to make them fair and encouraging.

GO NUTS!

 AmiQute
I could theoretically add QT Support to RetroArch (it has a QT GUI). But I am unsure what I need to do to get my dev environment (and my OS4 installation) to support Qt. Thx in advance ;-)

 Great idea!
I love this concept! As a novice programmer, are there any tutorials on how to get up and environment to develop in? I have access to Linux and can run containers, or able to do it native on OS 4 with a syntax enabled editor? Thanks! Bill "tekmage" Borsari

 Developer marathon QT
I also think this is a very good idea, and I hope it will encourage a few developers to create smaller QT apps for AmigaOS 4.1. The motivation should be there if the winner receives a gift or donation collected by the community. I will, of course, donate to this project, which could benefit the winner.

tekmage, did you not try MUI vim? https://os4depot.net/share/utility/text/edit/vim_mui.lha
(There's three distinct vim on there)

 Upcoming tutorial
There will of course be posted a full tutorial on how to easily build qt6 apps for amiga (spoiler alert : It is really easy). The blocking condition at this point is, that we want to include instructions for using walkero's docker as the main build tool. For building natively on AmigaOS, this is possible too, but there are a few caveats before we can release the native build tools.
