Amigans News : XAMOS author Stephen Harvey-Brooks (Mequa) has passed away

Amigans News

I'm sad to inform everyone that Stephen Harvey-Brooks, aka Mequa, passed away on July 3rd due to complications during an operation to change a pacemaker. He was a member of most Amiga related websites and known in this community for the cross-platform AMOS BASIC interpreter, XAMOS. Outside of this community, he was heavily involved in debate on Epicurean philosophy. He would have been 33 on the 18th of this month.

 A sad situation
Can't say that I recall the name from the forums, but anyone who dies of heart problems at the age of 32 has had really bad luck. My condolences to his family.

 Re: A sad situation
He wasn't very active on the Amiga forums, except mostly around the time XAMOS was being written. He posted a little more on MorphZone, AROS-Exec and UltimateAmiga. He and I would have long chats on Facebook about a whole range of things. It's hard to know who else here might have done the same.

@MickJT

Certainly not me, I'm not on Facebook!

I do at least recall reading some discussion on XAMOS and think I may have queried and/or encouraged in the thread. It was an interesting project although I never knew enough about it to determine whether I could run any of my old AMOS code with it (or whether it was far enough along to run anything at all).

To have heart problems at 33 is bad and my condolences go out to his family.

Really sad news indeed. RIP. Stephen.

I was really exited about XAMOS and would have paid for bounties for upgrades, which I messaged Stephen at times on AEB forum.

XAMOS as well as Playbasic can be funded to produce Amiga versions of software especially fast 2D game creation that Amiga desperately needs.
