'IBrowse 2.4 has now reached release candidate stage, and it is now in the final stages of testing, in anticipation for a release within the next few weeks. As most of you now know, we don't do release dates, but as promised we are letting you all know when we know a release is close - yes, "RSN" really does apply this time.
Merry Christmas!'

Yes, now it's official :)

Hi ikir,

From the IBrowse FAQ.

Quote:
2. If I purchase the full version of IBrowse 2.3 today, will the update to V3.0 be free lateron?

Yes, version 3.0 will be available as a free download at its time of completion to those who bought a full version (not update!) of V2.3.

Is it still too expensive?

And it should be PPC native, and may have Altivec support too!!!
-edit
Above sentence applies to IBrowse 3.0.

Re: IBrowse 2.4 Reaches Release Candidate Stage
This looks like the version that will get me to
finally buy IBrowse. Up to now I"ve been using AWeb
because it's so much faster than IBrowse with my
dialup system but with the new and improved features
it looks promising. Anybody know if IBrowse 2.4 will be
faster then 2.3 on a uA1 with dialup?

The price is a little high but if it includes a free
update to 3.0 when it's ready then I think it's well
worth supporting their efforts.

Thanks for the hard work guys!

Excellent news! This could be a very good Christmas. Now if they can just somehow manage to release OS4 soon this could be a great Christmas.

@Atheist

Well, in that case it's ok also for me that i have bought the full version when it costed 80 euro.. ( 2 or 3 years ago )..

But if i remember well, initially IBrowse 3.0 was a new version to buy separately..

@ktadd

Don't know but unregistered iBrowse has only 2 connection instead full version have 8 (you can choose afaik) so it is faster.

Re: IBrowse 2.4 Reaches Release Candidate Stage
I'm used to being hated, so I'll say this;

I hope they find (and get rid of) _more_ bugs, and Severin tells them the ones he's found too.

We want to show the world an "A" Class piece of SW!!!!

"Only Amiga Makes it Possible!!!!!!"

/me RUNS!!!!

P.S. 54.99 Euro / 462 Bugs = 0.119 each. That's QUITE the deal!

Full version will give upto 32 simultaneous connections. As for the faster bit, thats is only true if you have the bandwidth and processing power to handle the increase in data being received (and therefore processed).

Re: IBrowse 2.4 Reaches Release Candidate Stage
I would assume with a uA1 I would have enough processing
power to handle data from more than 2 connections. I
used a setting of 5 connections with AWeb. I cut
AWeb back to 2 connections andAWeb was still faster.
In addition to rendering the page faster, one of the
big reasons it seems faster is becuase it seems to
process the HTML page first, display it thenload the
graphics where as IBrowse pends time loading graphics
before it displays thepage. I wonder if changing the
order things are rendered would make IBrowse seem faster?
I can certianly read a page while graphics are loading.

Of course on a non-dialup system this may not matter much. Unfortunatly
there is no alternative except expensive satellite where I'm at.

Still the improvments to the 2.4 version of IBrowse are impressive. It's a
good Amgia browser and the improvements will make it the most advanced
browser for the Amiga. As long as it's stable I will purchase the 2.4 version.

Any word on if the upgrae from 2.4 to 3.0 will be a free one?

Keep up the good work guys!

Check out IBrowse's settings editor, the HTML (main) window. At the
bottom, below the color boxes, you can select whether it should wait for
the background, just the picture sizes, or the complete pictures. I have
only selected picture sizes in mine.

So you can experiment a bit and answer your own question.

Best regards,

Niels
