Software News

Audacious is a free advanced audio player for Linux and many other UNIX-compatible systems. It focuses on low resource usage, high audio quality, and support for a wide range of audio formats. It was originally based on Beep Media Player, which was in turn based on XMMS.

Update:
A new release of the package was uploaded on OS4-depot today which solves problems with umlauts and other special characters in filenames.

Features:

  • Support of many audio and playlist formats.
  • The sound output can be redirected into a file.
  • Creation of playlists through a search plug-in.
  • Live sound effects.
  • Selectable GTK+ or WinAMP interface.
  • Useful plug-ins e.g. for the display of lyrics or an alarm clock.
  • Streaming through HTTP or FTP.

    Works great without any fuss. Just listening to some MP3s.

    Thanks again.

    The feature list says:
    ◦MIDI via native OS synthesizer control or TiMidity.

    will it be possible to use Amicygnix Audacious with the native Timidity we have?

    @Elwood

    Version 3.2 of Audacious does not support Timidity anymore, the docs are not up to date. The Midi plug-in supports now only the Alsa sound system or Fluidsynth. I have no plans to port one of these libraries.

    @all

    Have fun with Audacious
