Amigans News : Password hack on Amigans.net
Posted by Mikey_C on 2012/1/11 4:50:00 (2026 reads) News by the same author
Amigans News

Note to all Amigans.net members: Robert Trevor Dickinson's password was hacked somewhere, the user used it to post as him on Amigaworld, Amiga.org and Amigans.net. Until we can establish where the security breach was, I would ask all our members to change their password on Amigans.net and anywhere else that the same password is used.

Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause

Mikey C

Update: We have no concrete evidence that the passwords here were accessed.

So... the hack was here or on awnet?

Anyway, i'll ask here the same i've asked there, why it is exactly needed to change the password?...

To answer your questions,
You don't have to change your password, its your problem if anything happens thereafter because you didn't change it.

I think you'll find it was possibly the default xoops icon that was showing perhaps?

 Re: Password hack on Amigans.net

Didn't know that was the default xoops icon, just edited my post to avoid conspiracy theories

Regarding the password, well... there shouldn't be any problem as long it's properly saved on your servers, don't you think?

 Re: Password hack on Amigans.net
Sorry for all the hassle.

I've used the same password for years on all my main Amiga webforums (and it was not Amiga or X1000 )

Needless to say, but I have now changed all my passwords and each one is now different.

 Re: Password hack on Amigans.net

There is no evidence that all sites were hacked, indeed, it is possible that none of the sites were hacked. The password Trevor used was the same across all 3 sites. It could have been guessed or obtained by other means.
