SimpleSub is a program for creating and editing .srt format subtitle files. It also supports encoding the subtitles onto the video using mencoder. It has a 'Preview' mode that allows full control of MPlayer with it's on screen display showing the current time for determining display time for subtitles.

The editor supports full keyboard control and auto time formatting for ease of entry. SimpleSub also supports "Title Settings" such as font selection, position, size, blur and outline. It comes with several freeware fonts to get you started. "Video Settings" allows you to choose the output format, video/audio bitrates and codecs for encoding. In addition it supports a "Test Mode" that limits encoding to the first 20 seconds so the titles settings can be viewed and adjusted before committing to fully encoding the whole video.

You should no longer have this problem. If encoding appears not to work, change the SUBFONT tooltype to look like the line below. I accidently left it set to a font that I deleted from the Fonts_ttf directory. I've already uploaded a corrected version to OS4Depot. Sorry about the trouble. SUBFONT = Fonts_ttf/Tiresias Infofont/Tiresias Infofont.ttf

SimpleSub v1.0 videos showing it in action are now available HERE! A little better quality in higher resolution than past videos. I purchased new equipment. See above link for details.

I must admit, my first thoughts were that I would need to understand the movie to add sub-titles to it, and if that was the case why would I need to add sub-titles? THEN i watched the videos, and what a great app. Very useful for annotating home movies, or downloaded movies (Youtube) etc. Annotating srec videos would be useful too. (OT just watched the clipdown videos as well, and wow!!!)

This version add the ability to set a maximum subtitle width and setting the subtitle background tranparency level. You can now created subtitles which appear in a box. Video of new features found HERE! Version 1.1 Added ability to set the maximum subtitle width as % of video width. Added ability to set transparency (alpha) level of subtitle background. Reduced "Test Mode" time from 20 seconds to 15 secinds. Bug fix: changed to use CON: instead of KCON: to execute command.
