![]() Nice! It seems to work well with my Epson 2400 Photo scanner.
But is there a way to save the scans in a normal image format (like .jpg, or .bmp, or .png, or .tiff)? |

Thanks for your work on this. I tried the following HP PSC 1210 Not recognised (works on SAM Debian) HP F2235 Not recognised (works on SAM Debian) Canon Lide 20 recognised as a Plusteck but will not scan. Never mind, it is still a start, I'll sniff around for other scanners to try. Keep up the good work. cheers ace |

![]() the backend whould be simply to port (i mean libsane) but the frontend should be written from scratch (i mean xsane and so on)

Quote: Interesting. This is something i'd like to try Like afxgroup said, the GUI means a lot of work. Not impossible, but it would need too much time for me. @PEB Quote: Nice! It seems to work well with my Epson 2400 Photo scanner. Good news ![]() Unfortunately with xscanimage you can only save the scans in PNM format. This is the native format of the Sane backends. You have to wait for another program, which is in the pipeline: Xsane (http://www.xsane.org). It is a professional program with lots of features -really impressing! It can save the scans in PNG, JPEG, PDF, PS, TIFF and of course PNM. I have already a binary, but there are a lot of bugs to fix. @acefnq Quote: HP PSC 1210 Not recognised (works on SAM Debian) Damn. Could you post the USB IDs of the scanners? You can get them, when you call the command "sane-find-scanner" in a shell. This command recognizes a scanner, even if it is not supported (no backend). This is what I get here with my Epson Perf. 3200: found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8 [EPSON], product=0x011c [EPSON Scanner]) at libusb:04b8:011c I couldn't find your HP scanner in the list of the supprted scanners (http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html). Did you install a backend from the manufacturer HP? |

I am just doing a major upgrade (or butcher) of Debian on my other SAM at the moment. Will try tomorrow and post. All 3 of the scanners (mind you the 2 x HP models are all in one units) are automatically found by SANE under Debian (Lenny) and work fine. Nice news about XSane, that is anic program. ace |

![]() Ahh its a good day, someone is using my libusb library :)
People with scanner problems could you say if youre using a A1/Peg or Sam computer? for the ohci driver for Sam has improved somewaht in the OS4.1 U1 so it may work better after its released. |

There must be a proprietary backend installed on Debian. I have to investigate, if the sources are available somewhere. Quote: Nice news about XSane, that is anic program. Yes indeed, it is a great software. I did do a sane-find-scanner and there was a question mark after the chip name which is slightly odd. It works under Linux. I'll post the output when I'm back on the Sam (I managed to lose the output before I posted it earlier) |

![]() I was disappointed to see that my HP ScanJet 4300C is not listed among supported backends, but I installed the frontends anyway, wondering how many years it would take me to learn how to port a backend.
And IT WORKED! One more thing I won't have to reboot to Debian to do. |

Every backend supports several scanners. You have to look at the Sane homepage (http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html) and search for you scanner. The "HP ScanJet 4300C" is listed there ![]() |

![]() @ all
After some tests I have to declare following backends as broken: - plustek - u12 Can someone, who needs the plustek backend post (or send me) the output of a debug version of "scanimage"? It can be downloaded here. Please call the command like this: scanimage >ram:scan.pnm -d <your device> If you don't know the device name, call "scanimage -L" before. Thanks! |
