Power supply for SAM460LE?
Just popping in

Hello everyone.

I am just putting together a SAM460LE and was wondering what sort of power supply I should buy. Is a "normal" ATX power supply required, or can I use something smaller.

Most importantly, how many watts should it be? I have heard that if you connect a very powerful power supply on a motherboard that doesn't require too much power, it won't work. Is this correct?

Sorry for the dumb questions - I'm a software guy, not a hardware guy!

Hi, I use on my SAM460EX a small form factor power supply (SSF or SFX) can't remember watts, but maybe around 350W.

My case is a very very ooooold PC desktop case.

@Hitman any kind of a classic psu of any power will do the job just fine.

I use a 300W ATX PSU in an Inter-Tech IM-1 Pocket mATX. It's still enough for some power consuming older GPUs. If you use a modest RX550, a 200W SFX PSU will surely be sufficient.

This is my SAM460LE

The cables can be hidden better, but since I change GPUs for MorphOS and AmigaOS, it is tedious to order the cables every time.
