I have not read the whole thread but I'm running 84.82 and getting AWEB crashes a lot whilst TuneNet is running.
I'll try the later version see if that helps - AWEB version is 3.5.08.

Da Rude!

Please use 84.84 - it fixed some horrible crash related bugs.

New "preview" version will be available at the end of May, with the first incarnation of the full sized skinable Interface.

Cheers,
Bean.

Seems to be a lot more stable now, with just the odd AWEB incident.
Thank you Bean.

I just have to kick in here...

Rudei, these crashes, can you post a Grim log, please

I too get crashes with AWeb, but only if TuneNet is running
OR TuneNet was started once (even if it not running anymore.
The crashes appear and it ALWAYS affects bsdsocket.library
(i think, not sure, if i got another crash i'll update if
it was another lib).

As if TuneNet (sorry bean, no offence intended) does something
to the lib and AWeb crash (It's recoverable though, every time)

edit: Of course this crashes only appear when using Radio streaming
No crashes with HD files

Got a PM from ZeroG with a crashlog stating bsdsocket.library crashed.

That is exactly (well, mostly) the same crashlog i get, so IF your bsdsocket.lib
is the one crashing for you, too, we may have a definite case of a bug here...

@bean
You listening?
It's still AWeb that's crashing but maybe you give me a hint, so i can point
Andy (Broad) in the right direction?

Thank you

Seems we may have found a bug, now for the specification

AWeb?
TuneNet?
BSDSocket.lib?

Here's a fresh one from a few minutes ago:

@All,

Hi guys, yep I am listening - just a bit busy! I have no idea what it is at this point in time, as you say it could be a variety of things.

As I'm working full pelt at getting the next "preview" release in a usable state I'm not going to have time to look in great detail at this just yet. I did have a quick look at my streaming code and network class, but I couldn't see anything obvious.

Some questions for people who suffer with this:

1/ Does TuneNet still continue playing, after the AWeb crash?

2/ Does another browser, like IBrowse, operate after the crash has occured.

3/ Can you confirm you have sufficient stack on AWeb?

4/ Can someone try running TuneNet with the -nogui and -nodock switch from cli with a radio station - does that cause the same problem.

Each socket opened using the bsdsocket library can only be (or should be) accessed by the calling task, which seperates things nicely. Perhaps there is something in TuneNet that is trashing a memory in AWeb or the socket library? or perhaps the additional load of TuneNet streaming in addition to web browsing is causing problems with the bsdsocket library? Perhaps it's an issue with AWeb which only comes to light when TuneNet is running?

There are many factors involved here I'll try and help out the best I can.

Cheers,
Bean.

P.S. I can't recreate the problem at the moment.

In fact while the GrimReaper is here nothing work (neither AWeb, nor TuneNet) but once you click on the 'Continue' everything comes back to normal.
I experienced this randomly, but only one time by session (time between two reboots) while I'm listening Internet radio, never got it while I'm listening to on disk MP3s.
I think I had a similar problem during a CVS/SVN heavy update operation, so I would most likely point either a bug in bsdsocket.library either a problem in the AWeb code.

Back to a quiet home... At last

1/ Does TuneNet still continue playing, after the AWeb crash?

Not while the GR window is open, but if you click continue it will start playback again.

Same as 1.
Quote:

3/ Can you confirm you have sufficient stack on AWeb?

I have increased the stack from 200000 to 800000 and get the same GR.

4/ Can someone try running TuneNet with the -nogui and -nodock switch from cli with a radio station - does that cause the same problem.

I have tried it for 2h now, but don't get a GR.
I will keep an eye on it in the next days.

1 + 2: See above post

3: Raising AWeb's stack didn't change a thing

4: Done and it happened again, completely the same crash message appeared unfortunately

I think we need to know what is happening in AWeb at the point of the crash and what BSD socket function (Opensocket by the looks of it) and the parameters that Socket function is being called with before going any further. After all the crash is being reported on the AWeb task and not TuneNet's. Logically we need to know why the crash occurs in AWeb first.

I tend to think it may be a bug in the socket library.

The main body of TuneNet's streaming is pretty much made up of a non blocking:

ISocket->recv();

It always requests a value greater than 0 and smaller than the buffer allocated for it. In terms of using the socket library there's not much more to it than that!

As I said I can't spend much time on this at the moment, but I think TuneNet is the red herring here!

Cheers,
Bean.

Not sure it is, but something to do with the combination of TuneNet and AWEB is causing this.
