DOS script testing for return code

Just can't stay away

How does one test for a return code (what operators work ?)
say for WaitForPort SomePort

IF `WaitForPort SomePort`
does not seem to work. Using EQ, GT as in
IF `WaitForPort SomePort` EQ "0" ; ( or GT) neither

Seems like you mix AmigaDOS and Arexx

Happens to me all the time aswell
