Hi, i did add a subdock and moved it to the middle of the maindock.
However its expanded content when opened sticks to the (most-right) position where it takes the place of an other subdock expansion. In general the other expansions are opened less correctly above their respective subdock icon.
@Vulture; thanks @shadowsun i did try this out, installing was a bit of work (i had to install amiupdate first)
Works OK, i did create a 'text' subdock(Notepad, AmiPDF, multivieuw etc) and changed the subdock icon to the Notepad icon. The name however remains "My button", not "text" as was edited with the amidock gui.
I found that i had to use the 'build' submenu. Trying to change the icon to one of env:sys extra subdock icons, i noted that you could not open env: as you can when selecting the icon for a "normal" subdock using an 'extra' subdock . Opening envarc: does not show the def_#?dock.info you can see when selecting an icon from an 'extra' subdock.
I also tried to use a smartbutton, to open some (eg the Prefs) drawer Here I could not copy the drawer icon, using Show/Picture/icon. I got an empty page icon opening sys: with the requester en entering Prefs.info manually on the filename line. Now just copying the drawer icon directly to amidock bar works OK, but still...

No need to install AmiUpdate, just copy smartbutton.docky and smartsubdock.docky somewhere on your HD (e.g. Utilities/Dockies) and drop smartbutton.docky at least once on a dock before using the other docky. It will setup the required environment variable.

Did you try to drop the drawer on the docky, in build mode ? It is the easiest way to achieve this. In normal mode, you have to configure each element separately using the context menu (Icon/image, description, title, action...).
The archive came with an "autoinstall" icon outside its main drawer. Doubleclicking on it i got a message requesting "copystore" searching for it, it appeared it was part of AmiUpdate. (Very nicelooking program BTW) so the confusion started there.

I just did. Thanks
Very smart additions to Amidock. Thanks to the authors

Oops, sorry for that, I really have to remove this 's' protection bit. I got trapped myself once and it ended up with a trashed subversion repository...

Great. I'll make a video to show what can be done with the docky.
