detecting empty stream buffer in daemon mode

This one is probably for the developers:

I'm trying to play a stream (online) but I can't detect with software when the stream ends.
I can quesry the length of the stram to play and program to stop it after the playtime exceeded.
But this isn't accurate, and sometimes stream ends prematurely.
The env: vars playing and status remain playing and part of the url.
Is it a bug or there is a way to detect the end of stream status?
When run with gui it says that the stream buffer is empty (or similar msg)

TIA
Jack

Suppose so (no holidays here, have to teach due to prolonged semester after a strike ).
