New distribution based on 3.1 and P96 in development
Just popping in

In the past I have invested a lot of time to develope distributions based on aros 68k, known as aros vision. Currently I work on new versions based on magellan and Scalos and will continue with it. But also I am aware there is need at 3.1 based versions and I have invested a lot of time in configuration of the desktops and collecting software that is mostly amiga. So I decided to also offer 3.1 based versions. The idea is user installs both 3.1 and P96 (P96 from aminet) and I offer the rest that can be copied in it.

In development is a magellan based version, a scalos based version will be added later. For example I have added already MagicMenu, a number of patches to speed it up, PowerWindows to move windows out of screen, datatypes, ahi, xfd, xad, whdload and much more

Yeh… OS3.1 can be painful to setup, some error make no sense, I’m trying to get Ibrowse 68K working, getting guru error 80000004, but did install the generic 040.library, I spent yesterday setting up EUAE for 68040, only to run into this problem.

AmigaOS3.2 is also really barebone, it lacks Picasso96, mui, lots of libs.. and classes, it takes a lot of time to get it all working..

sorry for being late. Better late than never.

Online now are two distributions for UAE. WinUAE config can be downloaded too

Here is download page:
https://www.aros-vision.de/downloads/Aros_2024_31_Upload.zip

aros can be downloaded and unpacked and used

the 3.1 distribution is based on 3.1 rom and installation and P96. Both cannot be preinstalled because of legal reasons.

So I created a page with description how to install 3.1 and P96 if somebody not knows.

then my distribution only has to be unpacked and copied over it

No based on 3.1 and P96 installation, no Aros

but I use the work I did in aros vision and copy the concepts and ideas, f.e. heavy configured desktops and easy change between the desktops, only difference here workbench instead of wanderer

Don't think EUAE support big roms, i did remove the crc check, but I'm not sure if that’s in official Os4depot version, in your 2en line you talked about OS3.1 distribution, not just a AROS one. Where are you misleading? AmigaOS and AROS are not 100% compatible with each other, while know some work was made to fix some of issues recently... most people own a copy of AmigaOS, that’s not a problem, the name of rom file can be issue, can be idea to let user choose a rom file, do a CRC and then rename the file depending on the CRC maybe, I’m not agnest adding big rom support to EUAE, but it be nice if someone points me to the changes I need to make.

A distribution can be something you just install on top of AmigaOS.

perhaps you do not understand aros 68k complete. AROS 68k basically reimplements API and libraries from 3.1 and adds stuff like RTG support and network stack. You can combine it with components and software compiled for 3.X and in best case they perfectly work. For a software like WBDock started from WBStartup, it feels like being at home and it runs without problems.

That was basically how I did Aros Vision, using aros components to replace copyrighted stuff like the roms and add lots of components, that were programmed and compiled for 3.1. That is how regular aros vision still works. I would estimate 90% of the distribution are amiga software, not aros.

I of course realized that many people still prefer amigaos so I used the 90% and transferred it to a distribution based on a plain 3.1 installation with Picasso96 (aminet) added. The aros components still missing like Zune or ahi and some other were replaced by MUI and AHI and other amigaos components. And datatype system I used replacements from aminet to add 24bit support. Magellan I could copy 1:1 from aros because it always was the amiga version, scalos I new installed and took over the preferences from aros. And I kept workbench.

So it is a regular 3.1 distribution like amikit ot BetterWB, just with a similar look & feel as my aros version. In many areas you will see no differences
