you can create new API's, but changing old API's will breake old software.

It's moved on in the sense that FileInfoBlocks are obsolescent. We have all spent many happy hours removing such outdated structures from system software and replacing them with calls to IDOS->ExamineObject() etc.

FileInfoBlocks should be allocated with AllocDOSObject() from Version 36 (AmigaOS2.04?) onwards.
