Mr. Mysza drivers needed!!!
Just popping in
Just popping in

Hello all, I've recently been given a mr. mysza ps/2 to amiga adapter, which I'm using a 3-button+mousewheel GE USB wireless optical, with a p2/2 to usb adapter. I don't have the driver disk, though. I was wondering if anybody has a copy they could e-mail to watertonian@charter.net?

Couldn't wait until the weekend. Switched my boot partition over, now the whole system runs a lot faster! Must be speed increase with fonts/librarys/devices/etc... Though I had to uninstall HDENV from the startup-sequence. didn't like it a whole lot, anyway. (I have 192mb FAST, I can just keep my Env: stuff int he ram disk)

Ah, cool. Don't think I'll be using FFS much anymore either. Waiting for my 2 gb drive to validate is too much of a pain, and if I can SFS my boot partition, that sounds like a project for next weekend! Thanks alot!

HDD crash recovery better than expected!
Just popping in
Just popping in

Hello all, something happened this weekend that I'm really happy about. (Now) My 2.1 GB HDD de-validated on friday, in such a horrific manner the OS couldn't re-validate it, and disk-salv crashed with every attempt.
I recovered the partition enough to read from it, and installed a 5gb IDE drive to copy it to. After this, I remembered I had SFS archived in my download directory, and I installed it. A bit of tweaking with HDtoolbox, a reboot, and a format later, I copied all the data back to the partition. I reset again after this, and I noticed my computer runs about 3x faster than before. I didn't know FFS could drag down a system quite like that before. I was also wondering, is it possible to set my boot partition to SFS as well?

@samo79

Very nice! Downloaded this last night, and it works really well! Been using an older vnc client that only does fullscreen, and I wanted firefox (running on my laptop via wi-fi) and ibrowse one the same screen, and this seems to be able to do it! Also, other one wanted to open 800x600x256 color screen with 1024x768 overscan, which on straight AGA kills, even with fblit, but this proggy had no problem opening a window on my workbench! And can drop to 8 colors, apparently. Love it!

@jabirulo

found the data patches, one on aminet, and another for pc on google. I wasn't able to patch the copy I had, because it was apparently pre-1.0. The other day, I was in a thrift shop, and came accross another copy of descent for US$1 (along with a 6-button sega gamepad, a 2-button pc-propad, and a non-keyed ide cable), and tried using that. Same prob, wrong version of .pig/.hog files, so I fired up pc-task, and applied the patches. did a copytoa with the patched .pig and .hog files, (copytoa is on of the ms dos proggies included with pc-task, allowing to copy from the pc "C:" drive to an amiga drive) and it works! Unfortunatly, no joystick support. I tried using joymac with it, but it doesn't work all that well. I think there's another version on aminet somewhere, I'll check that out too. Thanks for the help!

not sure if this proggy is ready for aminet upload

Hello all. not been too active here of late, because while digging through one of my old HD backup cd-r's, I ran accross a program I'd been working on since 1998. It takes a maze written in ascii and converts it into a dungeon master style maze in .html. It was pretty complete, except it didn't support doors or multiple wall/floor images. I finally got it to work, though I'm not sure if a cheesy cli app like this is really worth it. (I've uploaded another program that was supposed to translate between english and spanish, though it was a wordfile base find and replace engine.. didn't do anything with grammer.) anyway, the programs output is here. Also, it generates a 2-d map and a statistics page. It's CLI only right now, my skill at MUI development is still growing. (And has alot more to grow, unfortunatly) Anyway, my point is, should I send this up to aminet, or polish it up a bit first? Thanks for any feedback.

adescent help! (fixed)

I've recently bought an old copy of descent from amazon.com, and tried running adescent off the amiga, but the .pig and .hog files are the wrong version. I've tried updating them with the patch from aminet, but it didn't work. I've also run the dos-based patches with pc-task, but it still doesn't like the current files and won't update them. Anybody else have a problem like this? Thanks for any help.

Will Amiga GFX cards work with this?

Found this playing around on the web. I was wondering if AmigaOS 3.9+ mediator+ some gfx card could use the required resolutions to do this? I know AGA isn't up to it.

Re: quick question about a1200 upgrade.

@Antique

Yeah, I might wanna do that. I remember some sort of switch on amigakit that mounts on a 5.25" bay for that, I'm guessing that would be the most cosmetic solution. I'm towering my 1200 partially because I'm sick of all the wires snaking about my compuer desk. (ethernet cable sticking out the pcmcia slot, ide ribbon cable sticking out just behind it, etc...) Plus, I would like fullcolor gfx for a slick looking WB, and less grainy floyd steinberg dithering on my browser on my 64 color 800x600 screen. (Plus 1024x768 or higher would be nice) I also ran accross a display adapter (For windows, though it uses standard vga signals) that splits a 3072x768 screen into 3 independant 1024x768 outputs. 3 monitors on my miggy would be sweet! (Anybody know about/use such a gadget?)

@Mikey_C

Would love to show up! Though I'm guessing the UK in the subject and the price in ? means I'll have to miss it. (last time I went to UK it cost me US$600 for the plane trim, in '97) Would there be a .avi or something for download?

Hello all. I was wondering if there is any way to use a Picasso IV gfx card with a mediator? My tax return is coming in pretty quick now, and I can get ahold of one fairly cheap. Also if the Picasso IV doesn't work, is there any pci gfx card that can auto-promote AGA/ECS screenmodes like the Picasso does, without needing a monitor switch/scandoubler? Thanks for any help. (I want better gfx, but still wanna play Frontier Elite II!!!)

Thanks for the English part of that. (Only Latin, German, and Spanish offered in school here...) Might send this to my dad, who has a 4000. He'll probably want the Mickey Mouse too, though.

Found the prob. Somebody on aw.net told me about mui not liking the default 4k stack size. Simple enough fix. Bumped it to 8k, and it works fine.

MUI proggy crash. HELP!!! (FIXED!!)
Just popping in
Just popping in

Hello all. I was having trouble with a MUI application I compiled. (It took me 3 hours and 2 pots of coffee just to get something to compile) I wrote a program that just throws the GUI up, compiled it, and it works. Unfortunatly, when I go into the prefs editor, and try to change the window background, it gives me a software error, sometimes straight to a guru. I was wondering if anybody else has had this kind of issue, and knows how to fix it? Thanks for any help.

Re: Help wanted from all Amiga owners
Just popping in

@Mitch

Hardware:
Amiga 1200 68060/50hz (Blizzard 1260/1230 scsi) + 192mb Fast, 3.1 OS Roms, 2mb chip, 4xide adapter, dvd rom, cd-rw, 3com etherlink III PCMCIA network card (hooked to motorolo wireless router), USR sportster 56k external modem (I operate dial-up over an ethernet LAN, and am sometimes too lazy to walk across the apartment to dial out with the proxy), external floppy drive (880k, original a1000 style), optical boing mouse, 6-button sega genesis gamepad. (last 3 probably not too important)

Operating System:
Amiga OS 3.9, Windows3.1 (PC-Task), Windows95 (PC-Task), Dos 6.something (PC-Task), Macintosh Sysyem 8.something (Shapeshifter)

Filesystem:
2 FFS partitions, 2 MS-Dos/Windows FAT partitions, one MFS partition

TCP/IP stack:
Miami 3.2b, Windows 95 dialer (PC-Task)

Browser(s):
Ibrowse 2.3, Aweb 3.1, Voyager 3.3.126, Internet Explorer (PC-Task, and it is PAINFUL!!)

Email software:
yam 2.
4
Chat software:
jabberwocky 1.4, Wookiechat 2.4 beta 15, AmIRC 3.4

Virus software:
none

Do you use PGP with your emails:
nope

Extra info/other software used online:
Quicksilver arexx web server, only when connected via router for LAN access, AExplorer only on LAN, SMBFS also only over the LAN (LAN= wireless router with proper WEP/authentication settings over 3com ethernet card). Also use Portscan!, weather experience, RC-FTPd 2.74 FTP server (Manually fired off for faster x-fer speeds of large files, either LAN or Modem), AmTelnet, Ftpmount, AmFTP, and Mnews (Most available on Aminet).

Only real security concerns I have are Amiga Explorer, RC-FTPd, and possibly SMBFS, though probably not too much for SMBFS, as it only mounts remote samba shares locally, and doesn't host anything. Nonetheless, I only run the last 3 with the LAN through my firewalled/encrypted router for ease of computer access from one 'puter to the other. (I'm too lazy to walk from one room to the next with a floppy disk/ cd-rw) SMBFS would be pointless to run over the moded connection, and the webserver I've only done once when I was bored and wanted to log into my 1200 with my cellphone. (It actually worked, too. I was shocked) The FTP server I RARELY fire up at all, as SMBFS and Amiga explorer seem to fit my transfer needs, failing that, (.iso cd images, huge .avi/.mpg/.mp3 files, etc...) I use cerberus FTP on one of the 2 windows machines and AMFTP on the Amiga. Not too worried about viruses (virii?), not too many for classic miggy to worry about. Would PGP my e-mails if they contained anything truly important, and if the recipient would know how to decode them, but it hasn't been an issue yet. Hope all this helps.

Hello. I was wondering if it was possible to get Fblit to work better with MUI, Amidock, and Amplilfier? I've already modified it to work with icons, increasing my gfx mem to 1.4mb with an 800x600x64 resolution screen. Though MUI apps eat alot of chip mem still, and Ampliifiers skin does as well. Amidock isn't a big deal, but when I assign a background image to it, it gets hungry for chipmem, too.

Actually, I did end up buying an ethernate card from some guy on Ebay, (Who not only sent the card, but also a cd full of games, drivers, etc... gave him some really good feedback) and my 1200 connects much better now. Hooked up to a motorola wireless router, and the laptops hooked up with a wireless pcmcia card, with my fiance's 'puter connected via usb wireless card. unfortunatly, I still have dial-up internet. And the XP laptop is the one hooked into the phone, which is also the one that likes to spontaneously turn off... ugh...

need help with network connection

Hello all. I have a problem with a network config. My Father has an old A4000 that he wants online, but has no ethernet card for his broadband router. His other computer has SUSE Linux (x86) installed on it. I've managed to rig my a1200 to a windows box with a null-modem cable and installed a router on the pee-cee, but I don't know how to configure a linux box to do lthe same thing. Was wondering if anybody here would know how to do this? I think he has Miami installed on the 4000, but I'm not sure what he has on the linux box.
