I want to go to see OS 4.1
At least we've got something new to celebrate. (I might even be able to afford a copy by then)

@Jurassicc

I think if you look on the turbo-print website, it tells you somewhere that Amiga developement has indeed stopped.
Last time I checked was quite a while back, mind you.

Edit: Just checked again. The last version for Amiga is 7.60 for 69 Euros, but the last update was 2004 for OS 2.04.

@xeron

Yes, I'd like to be able to listen to Beeb2 and a few other BBC stations (on Listen Again). Trouble is, when it checks for Windows Media Player or Real Player, it doesn't seem to allow anything else.

You could try setting raplay up. It's available from OS4Depot/Audio/Play

http://www.os4depot.net/index.php?function=browse&cat=audio/play

Or from Aminet, RAPlay.lha for 68k

If these cards (or one of them, anyway) is the Shark, Sonnet are selling them online for $39.95 - for the 500Mhz model and $19.95 for the 400 Mhz.

Wish I could write the necessary software to get one of these babes running on an A1200 with mediator.

The other cards go up to 1GHz!

@TiredOfLife

Someone posted on a thread recently that the Shark was nothing more than one of Sonnets Mac processor upgrade cards.
They go a lot higher in speeds now. 'Course, we'd still need drivers...

@agafaster

I'm still using ethernet on my unfixed A1 to connect to a router for my broadband. Works a treat. Can't do it with a USB modem, though.
Most routers have a built-in firewall, too

I am awaiting the release of OS4 for classic in the hope that it will boost the number of attendees. Now given that Christmas is just around the corner, then how people will be paying off Xmas right up till Feb, I reckon march/april next year is probably a good time for everyone.

I take it you'll re-vitalise this thread or put up a new one, then, at the relevant time?

Open Office

Just popping in

Yes, its that old topic again!
Any one know if there's been any progress at all with it?
The reason I ask is that I've been given an old G3 iMac on which I've installed OS X 10.2.8 and I wanted Open Office for it.
The Mac OS X version uses X11 to run under. There is an Aqua (native) version in the works, but for now, X11 is the main option.
Of course, there's bound to be a huge number of dependencies for such a big package (I've just burnt a 330Mb .dmg image, which is OO.o and X11). My thoughts were, of course, about using Edgar Schwan's excellent Cygnix program to port it to. I know that's still not a native port, but better than nothing. And yes, I know there's Abiword and several other programs which give us pretty good office capabilities, but still nothing as complete as this.
Any one any thoughts here?

@AmiKit

Absolutely, and I seem to remember various bits of info coming from G-M saying that work on Magellan (for OS4) was progressing nicely. That was before this period of the website being notavailable, etc.

Note: from a press release on Guru-Meditation's site in 2004

Gothenburg, Sweden, October 20th, 2004
Guru Meditation and GPSoftware are proud to announce that they have reached agreement on the acquisition of the exclusive, worldwide rights to Directory Opus Magellan for the Amiga platform from GPSoftware. This legendary file manager that started on the Amiga will finally be coming back in a new version!

If you go for their web address, you just get this message:

For the past year, the workload has increased while the man-hours unfortunately has not. On top of that, there is construction work in the storage area going on which means that for the moment, no orders can be processed. This will be the case until the end of 2007.

@Antique

With my original setup for the A1 I had one 256Mb module and a difrferent manufacturers 128Mb module. Worked fine, but when I tried to swap the 128 Mb for a 512Mb, things went a bit screwy.
