@Hans

As a quick test I added RageMem to the LTE blacklist, and wow, was it slow in finishing. That alone tells me that FPU emulation is impacting the numbers; and with LTE disable the results were substantially worse as expected:

So I wonder if we can get Crisot to build us a version using unsigned integers rather than floats, if possible, for an A1222 test. That should be possible since for some CPUs he already does that. This doesn't matter for the other benchmarks, since they are supposed to measure workload performance, and if FPU emulation kills the result, so be it. But for something that should be an indicator of relative HW bandwidth, we should take the emulation issue out of the equation if possible for a more accurate comparison. IMO, of course.

@Hans

Great thread! My A1222 showed virtually identical results, except for the Whetstone results:

Whetstone:

One other point is that the RageMem numbers may be off; the video bandwidth numbers, for example, are absurdly low. I suspect RageMem may be hitting the FPU emulation layer. In which case the numbers both are and are not correct. They would be correct in so far as it shows the impact of floating-point emulation. They would be incorrect in terms of reflecting actual HW bandwidth.

I'll go ahead and and try and verify/disprove that hypothesis shortly.

Since not everyone is on the Discord server -- and why not?! -- I'll summarize my findings here.

1. Works perfectly on X5000
2. Performs great on A1222, but some GL textures are rendered incorrectly

Both points are true whether running with a Southern Islands RadeonHD card or a RadeonRX card.

Just a quick update... after looking at the issue, Daniel was able to identify the problem (an incompatibility with the LTE layer) and it should be addressed with the next release of the OpenGLES2 library. For A1222 users who want to try this, just add ogles2.library to the LTE blacklist for now and it should work great.

Oh, and if you're lost as to the controls, there's a guide on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/SuperMario64/ ... 9/sm64_pc_controls_guide/

@rjd324

I own the original N64 game itself, so I don't think there would be any copyright issues so long as it wasn't distributed beyond existing owners. But I'm no lawyer. If you do need a tester, in addition to having the actual N64 system and game, I can test on my X5000 and A1222 with RadeonHD and RadeonRX cards. Let me know.

@ddni

I wouldn't worry about the replies of folks who aren't using AOS4. Many of them are happy using 68K emulation, and that's fine. And many of them have an axe to grind because they feel like the Amiga would be 'alive' today if not for the NG path, or they really do want to use AOS4 but can't afford, or are proponents of other Amiga-related platforms, or ....

The ones that are constructive are the ones to pay attention to, as well as the bulk that represent actual, current users. There are always cranks and malcontents in the world. Best ignore them.

Just wanted to confirm that LiteXL works perfectly on the A1222. I was concerned that the redraw performance could be an issue, but it isn't. Works a treat.

Is anyone still able to use twittAmiga 4.4.2 on their AOS4 systems? For a few days now it is unable to connect to Twitter either with an existing account or during the initial setup. Did the API change again and Oliver needs to catch up or is there something wrong on my end?

A big thanks from me and Aharon (my son). Competitions like this are a great idea. Now all we need are a few new games from Entwickler-X....

@walkero

Is there a guide to connecting to the Discord amigans server via AmIRC somewhere?

Edit: Looks like my mistake was not realizing the bitlbee bridge wasn't running on irc.amigans.net -- you have to set it up via chat.macintoshgarden.org as the guide indicates. Sorry for any confusion.

@AmigaOldskooler

My son Aharon is very excited about this month's game competition and is giving it a go. First attempt so far he's gotten a high score of 43,579, but intends to try to get that higher. He's a big fan of our Amiga boxes and the Entwickler-X games generally.

I have never understood this, either, and there seems little or no documentation on the subject. Maybe someone who worked on the graphics.library overhaul some years back can comment?

IDE card for AmigaOne X5000?
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

I have an unusual idea and am looking for help. In my basement I have several older Power Macintosh and Macintosh computers with IDE hard drives, but all of them have some odd HW issue that prevents me from booting them. And I really want to recover some of the data on them, so, here's what I'm thinking of doing since it's nice and complicated and makes little practical sense:

1. Get a supported IDE card for my X5000, either PCI or PCE-e
2. Attaching one of the Macintosh drives
3. Using filesysbox to mount the HFS volumes

Is this even remotely possible? Can anyone recommend an IDE card for my X5000?

32 seconds for x5k after you hit poweron till fully loadef wb with amidocks and co ? Sounds strange.. i mean logo+busscaning take ~25 seconds alone..

That is nearly exactly what I get on my system. 33 seconds from power-on to Workbench ready to go.

Quote:
If you indeed have 32 seconds for everything, can you answer plz on those questions:

- is it 020 or 040 version ?
- Did you use ssd or hdd ?
- what version of ngfs ?
- Beta uboot or public one ?
- fresh update2 or a long time working system (with big appdir cache, etc) ?
- Can you post there your whole "printenv" from uboot ?

I can't speak for Mufa, but my answers would be:

1. X5000/20
2. SSD (a Samsung 240GB unit)
3. SFS/0 1.293
4. U-Boot aeon_2021-01-05
5. Long working system; latest beta components

As for my U-Boot variables, I'll post a graphic via the site Images section. Hope this data helps.
