Re: Megazeux problems on exit

The Amiga-OS I am using now is Amiga OS4.1.3 on a multiboot "bundle-buzz pack" with AmigaOS4.1.3,OS4.1.1,AmigaOS4.0 Final+July and finally AmigaOS 4.0 Update 4 with wich I am now testing the software I can on the time being to be as OS4.1 and OS4.0 compatible.

The question is if this will fit well with older and more recent OS4 software?

About Megazeux; will this game behavior affect other future probed games?

Why Megazeux hangs with Armageddon Sword?

i was unable to reproduce your hang condition on my system. for reference purposes i am using the versions of megazeux and armageddon sword from os4depot on my SAM440ep-flex @ 667MHz with 512MB of RAM, a radeon 9250 128MB graphics card, and running OS4.1u3.

is this only occuring on this particular game, or all of the megazeux games? do you have up-to-date SDL libraries?

I have been working on sshd from time to time but it is tricky to do correctly given the usual fork() fun. It is still on my list of things to finish.

nice. i'd love the ability to ssh into my SAM from work. the geek factor alone is worth it.

Who knows or plays Megazeux?

EDIT: I am now testing AmiCygnix and using Netsurf 1.2 to post this on Amigans.

i'll see if i can reproduce your hang condition this evening after work on my SAM. i'll update this post with any findings.

Amiga users would want Hyperion to own Amiga name.

that would be fine with me. of course i don't really care who owns the 'amiga' trademark and (if any still is remaining) associated IP, so long as they were a benevolent actor -- as opposed to mcewen who seems to think licensing the marks to television makers and arrogant floridians is an appropriate path to take.

To me the distinction is clear. Hyperion Entertainment are the legal owners to the AmigaOS. (Hopefully one day the Amiga name too - not saying they aren't already, but its all in the US courts again)

wait -- hyperion and amiga, inc., are involved in another lawsuit? what is 'in the courts again?' the amiga trademark itself?

@tjsooley

welcome to the site! there are a few amiga users in the tri-state area, and depending on what you're looking for (classic vs NG, etc.), i might be able to put you in contact with folks who can answer questions.

by the way, i'm in waterbury, conn., and work in poughkeepsie, NY -- so i'm 'relatively' close to you. i tend to go into monsey or brooklyn every month or so for shopping, so if you'd like we can meet up and i'll bring my SAM for you to try out.

as for purchasing, there are three ways to go: the used market via amiBAY, eBay, or board classifieds here and on AWN; the retail scene, usually via established dealers like amigakit; or the direct route by purchasing from the manufacturers such as acube. i got my SAM used, and have been very happy, and with the X1000 shipping in just a couple of months, you'll start to see a bunch of machines listed for sale as folks raise money for the new hotness.

good luck, have fun, and let me know if i can help!

:)) That 5+ :) The community and powerfull shell which isn't need it ! :)

i think you may have misunderstood me.

the shell is very powerful, and very useful, and i'm very glad it's there. the point was that for those who have no need of it, they can still run the system just fine. i meant that the shell is a useful add-on, but all system functions can be done without it should the user desire.

and yes, i like the community very much.

@thread

i don't know if it can be summed up in a phrase. there is so much to like: pervasive scripting, an absolutely gorgeous GUI, capable of running on (very) low-powered hardware, the community, a powerful shell which isn't needed unless the user wants it, and customability beyond measure which is wholly accessible to the user without registries or plists or XML files or *conf files or ....

i suppose i enjoy it because it's just, well, fun. it's different. and it never frustrates me. i can think of little more to add, except that when i need to do work, i'm on a PC. when i'm home, i'm on my amiga.

Yes, there is. Envoy. Version 3 (or better 3.1) works here and is my main network setup for *all* my AmigaOS and MorphOS systems. Fast, easy, transparent. I use SMB only if I have to (i.e. transfering files to Windows PC). Sad thing is that it only can be obtained as a used copy (f.ex. eBay).

where does one obtain a copy? is it still commercially available?

@thread

had to punt on this release as well. the two biggest issues for me were the odd window redrawing behavior -- if i resize the window, the window itself resizes, but the browser contents remain in the previous position like some odd frame setup -- and quitting the tool takes nearly 30 seconds.

is joerg accepting bug reports any more? if he's still planning on making the odd bug-fix, i'd like to make certain i provide useful feedback.

Making of nemo2 image looks cool :) And plate itself looks like normal modern motherboard, with all those 4sata, tons of slots, etc.

it does look brilliant. as time goes on i regret not signing up to test the thing. i'm worried when they ship to retail customers, it will sell out so quickly i won't be able get one.

in any case i'd love to see things like this posted more often; it gives outsiders like us a glimpse into what is going on, and helps demonstrate progress.

There are 2 versions, one require AmiCygnix but the other one should be native:

Did you check this ?

http://os4depot.net/index.php?functio ... ity/text/edit/vim-bin.lha

that one works natively, although within a shell. if you're looking for VIM with fancy GTK or QT bindings, i.e., a graphic interface, then no, we don't have one save GVIM for amicygnix.

but the OS4-native VIM 7.1 binary works quite well. i use it all the time.

folks,

dirk has posted two photos of the rev2 motherboard for the X1000, a.k.a. NEMO, over at the A1-X1000 page at yahoo! groups. one is of a finished board, the other one about to be populated with some components on one of the lines at the manufacturer. if you have an interest, register for the group and check them out.

yeah.... this might have been my fault. in a post on AW.net in a response to a question about what was being announced at the time, i mentioned a 'revision 3' nemo board when i had meant revision 2.

sorry, guys! i'll find my post and correct it....
