Amiga user for the longest time?

Not too shy to talk

Echoing a new topic over on Amiga.org, I'm wondering who has been an Amiga user for the longest time. I didn't buy my A2000 until around Sept/Oct 1987, but I've been using Amigas since about Oct/Nov 1985.

If there are sources available for that thing I may be interested making an OS4 native version. I could use a simple telnet daemon...

The source is included with the program found here in Aminet. If you can get it to work under OS4 I'd be very grateful.

I have tried to used telnetd and wasn't able to set it up correctly. I managed to be granted a login but nothing came after this (i.e. the telned console was empty).
I guess what you are missing is the AmiTCP: assign where telnetd is looking for some things... And also you should add a user into the file Devs:Internet/Users, this user should have a password and a shell.

Thanks for the suggestions, but as I said I've set up telnetd correctly with an AmiTCP: assign and a user entry in the Users files. I know others are using telnetd successfully, but I'm supposing that's with OS3.x. Has anyone successfully used telnetd-2.0 with OS4?

I've set up telnetd-2.0 according to instructions, but when I try to connect it gives me a 'Connection refused' error. I've run Snoopy trying to see if it fails anywhere, but everything looks good. Any ideas as to what's going wrong?

OK, my next little problem is when launching Amaya I get an Assign requester with a mangled assign (i.e. "Please insert volume /usr/local/src/Amaya-9.5/Progra: in any drive") After clicking Cancel several times the program finally starts, but it keeps asking for the same assign several times everytime you load a new webpage. Any ideas as to why it's doing that?

hi there
Olfa is the one who develop JKFF.
JKFF is a two part program:

1 part is "JKFFDisp" which enable amigaos to display japanese.

2 part is "JKFFInput" which enable japanese text to be typed on amigaos. it's an input method editor (IME / FEP) front end processor.

the new version alpha is just to try compatiblity with os4 comodity system, i think.

So how do you use JKFFInput to type Japanese text?

Please try key combination "ctrl + o".

I programming JKFFInput now.

Yes, JKFFInput appears in the Commoditiy Exchange and
"ctrl + o" shows the interface. So I guess it's also working on my A1 here.

edit:

@Vailiant:

...

some years ago, i helped a friend to build a japanese input method on morphos, just like this, explaining how the language actualy works.. he could made a working program to input japanese on morphos. (btw morphos used jkff to be able to display japanese) but jkff don't seems to work on os4.

it's open source btw:
http://www.phoenix-c.or.jp/~olfa/jkff/index.html

it worked at some point in os4 too (pre4 i reckon)
but only with 68k progs..

anyway feel free to ask anything you need.

see you

How do you use JKFFInput? I tried to use the new version Alfa just released on his site, but it doesn't seem to do anything although it does show up under the Status command.

Bug in MUI menus?

How about the cookie contents - does that line show up?

The server, type and contents are all shown using the MUI highlight text pen (shine). So, either you have something awry in your pen settings, or maybe you are not using the english locale?

Yes, cookie contents doesn't show up either. As you say the problem is the MUI highlight text pen; it's set to the same color as the requester background. So I'm not sure, as I didn't change anything in MUI, how do I change the color of the highlight text pen?

@keisangi

I see from your thread on AmigaWorld.net here:

http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/v ... opic_id=21984&forum=14&20

that the first thing we'll need is a charset. I wrote a kana charset for my VIC-20 and then C64, though I suppose one for the Amiga will be very different. I'd be happy to look into what's needed for an Amiga charset if you'd like.

If you'd like some help with Japanese support, I'd be happy to do whatever I can. Have you tried the current classic solutions on OS4? I set them up on my A1, but it caused some show-stopping problems with IBrowse and now
the Locale prefs editor always GRs when it first starts up.
