I haven't, no - if you click on Register For Account is just takes you to a web page for Codebench that hasn't been updated since 2017 and as far as I could see, didn't contain the register page that the link suggested it should.

AmiUpdate Passwords

Not too shy to talk

According to the AmiUpdate web page, when accessing a site that requires login you will prompted the first time and then this information should be stored in the site list file which should be in the AmiUpdate folder.

I get prompted for the login for Hyperion's website every time I do a scan. I also don't seem to have a site list in the AmiUpdate folder. I currently have the servers www.amiupdate.net and update.amigaos.net defined with amiupdate being the one tagged for self update so I would think this information should be getting stored somewhere but I don't know where.

I have tried to add this to the AmiUpdate bug tracker but it's locked down and I can only get in as a guest user.

Hopefully I'm missing something obvious or doing something wrong! I swear back when I was trying OS4.1 under emulation it didn't prompt me every time but that was years ago and I can't remember how I did it, or if it just worked by itself.

Ah. Yes, I guess it’s some shader function that’s not fully implemented? Or something like that.

@Raziel

Just gave it a quick try over lunch with The Longest Journey.

Everything appears to work but there are constant warnings (errors?) in the log window:
"WARNING: GL ERROR: GL_INVALID_OPERATION on glad_glUniformlf(pos, f) (./graphics/opengl/shader.h:150)!"

Same thing over and over. I imagine you know but thought I'd mention it anyway.

I haven't tried the version from Raziel yet because without going back through the thread I don't know where "the usual place" is, but the version from afxgroup seems to have gone backwards as it doesn't recognise Strangeland. I guess it's just older than the current "normal" release.

I'll give Raziel's version a shot. Not like I'm expecting miracles, was just curious to see if it would run at more than 5fps (** I know Strangeland is probably asking way too much, I just liked the look of it **)

I know I'm ressurecting an old thread here, but...

Before I go ahead and buy it, is this game still likely to work with the current game asset files given it doesn't look like the OS4 version has been updated since 2018?

In theory, it's remotely possible to get old releases via some Steam command line tool but we would have to go back a long way to find the files that existed back in 2018.

For now I've added it to my wishllist. I've spent far too much money on Amiga stuff (and Spectrum) recently so buy it at full price and find it doesn't work.

Does anyone know if there is an FPS limiter built in? Or an option for VSync? I know this might be strange when most people just care about showing as many FPS as possible, but if we're talking 1080p @ figures like 180fps on an X5K with RX580, that's likely going to represent GPU heat, and GPU heat = GPU noise.

Not a show stopper, just curious if there's either a vsync option or an fps cap option?

It's also looking like extracting the 2nd CD in bin/cue format on Apple Silicon Mac is likely to be problematic too but hopefully I can tackle that in my Windows Arm VM if needed.

Re: ScummVM and AmigaOS4.1 F.E.

I'll try and do this tomorrow night - I need to remember how to take screenshots and upload them on the X5000 and they'll be windowed too which I would assume will impact performance?

What I did do this evening is get the certificate bundle sorted and download both the icon pack and the shaders. I then got Simon The Sorcerer (AGA) running since I obviously know that one will work. It seemed to work fine using TV 2x shader with OpenGL, although the mouse was often just a corrupt square. So that confirms the system is generally working. There was no option to display FPS for that game.

Strangeland remains a slideshow at 4 or 5fps. Assuming all my graphics drivers and everything are installed correctly, I'm not really sure what else there is. But I'll try and get some screenshots up.

If it’s usable on your card then I’d say something isn’t right with my setup or settings. I’ll take another look when I can.

Just the one on os4depot from December so whatever that was. I’ll check again tomorrow but I think I already set OpenGL as the renderer. I mean for a point and click game 25-30 would be more than enough. And honestly I can play it on my Mac, I was just curious if I was missing something.

Re: ScummVM and AmigaOS4.1 F.E.

Not too shy to talk

I've just installed ScummVM this evening. I'll be honest, I don't have much of a clue what I'm doing. Since it was on offer on Steam I bought Strangeland (£3.50!). Initially I just got a load of errors whenever I tried to run it related to assigns and steam achievements. Eventually I worked out that I needed to manually set the paths in the ScummVM GUI as defaults weren't enough.

So I can now "run" the game. But it runs at 5fps on an X5000 with RX580. Is this expected for Strangeland? I read it was the most demanding ScummVM game but I've no idea just how demanding, demanding might be. Is it expected to be as unplayable as that?

I could easily be missing something in my setup as I still suspect my system isn't fully and properly configured. (Both for ScummVM and in general)

@Hans

Sorry to say that I’ve made no further progress at all. Tail end of last year was very distracted with other things going on and injury this year has meant I couldn’t sit at a desk so couldn’t work either. Am sorted now and did spend the weekend doing OS4 stuff so hopefully I can get back onto it.

With such a long gap in between I can’t even remember how my cross dev stuff works on my laptop. I also have your cmake book to work through and I’m sure there was at least one other of your books on graphics coding too!

I have the attention span of a goldfish 😂

It's been a good weekend, not only did I learn how to change that, but I found similar settings and fixed the same problem for multi view and notepad too :D (in their case staring me in the face in the menu bar mind you!)

Things I should have solved long ago, but there was always something else to fiddle with instead. On top of that, got e-UAE and glUAE working nicely so it's been pretty productive.

Anyway, apologies for going O/T...

Ah ok - well to be honest, I'm not going to run WB at 4K, ever. But sometimes emulatiuon scales very well on a 4K screen. One for the future I guess.

@AmigaSociety did you get 4K going?

I put my RX580 in yesterday to get some more performance and noticed it's only auto-detecting up to 1440 (ironically that works for me out of the box). I'm like you and won't actually USE 4K but you know - maybe one day it might be useful for something so it would be nice to have it there as an option.

My monitor is 27" 4K Dell

Re: Bug-fix updates for Odyssey?

The only issue I have with Odyssey which is on my list of "Things that don't work for me on OS4 and need looking into" is that every time it opens, it opens to the full width of the screen. That might have been fine 20 years ago when the average screen was small but on a 4K, 27" screen it's downright annoying. Multiview does the same.

I've not really looked into it as I've kind of just assumed it's the way it is, but if there is a solution, or a setting I'm missing, someone please tell me :D

Re: What RX card do you use, and what is your experience with it?
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

I've got two (lucky me!).

Main one is a Sapphire RX580 8GB. I didn't buy it specifically for this machine, it was bought for an external GPU chassis but since Apple abandoned that idea it's now spare. Fans are fine with it. Obviously it's not silent but it certainly ain't noisy - and I'm really fussy about that.

Now, having said that, the card is long enough that it blocks airflow a bit in the case and the temps are 1C or 2C hotter with that card so I have been running an RX550 which is passive. I'm not sure on the make and model without opening the machine but I think it's a Sapphire again and 2GB.

For the most part the 550 is sufficient but when I was playing that 3D space shooter that was ported (or maybe featured, I forget) a month or so back it was obviously struggling so putting the 580 back in is on my to-do list before I go to the local Amiga event at the end of the month. Just haven't got round to it yet, been busy elsewhere.

Sapphire cards do seem to be the best supported in a lot of cases, not just OS4

---

Sapphire Pulse RX550 8GB - Works*, fans are quiet / power management OK
Sapphire RX550 - Works*, passive.
Soft reset not working on either card.
