Hi Guys,
Just to let you know the Docky graphic bug has been fixed. (Though the quitting one sounds odd. - Try right clicking the docky and selecting Quit) Cheers, Bean.
That works, as long as the dock is the active window.

Web browser by Hyperion - feasible?

Would it be feasible for Hyperion's programmers to develop their own OS4 specific web browser? They, of course, know OS4 better than anyone. It should be faster and work better than ports of browsers designed for other systems. If they all worked together on it maybe it wouldn't be too huge of a project.
Of course I've never attempted to make a web browser so I don't know how much work it would be. I also don't know how busy the Hyperion programmers already are.
It was just a thought!

Hi Skov.
I too have recently bought a couple of joypads to try and add AmigaInput support to my program, but alas I couldn't get either of them to work. They don't work in my program and the AmigaInput prefs don't work with them either. Unfortunately AmigaInput really needs a rewrite to work reliably with all joysticks/joypads.
It seems to work for some people - just not us.
I've got a similar problem. Mine's a USB joystick made by Welcom. It looks just like a Playstation2 joystick. AmigaInput sees it when connected but it doesn't do anything under Test/Calibrate. Even the buttons don't do anything.

@klesterjr
Could you make a new icon for WarpView? The current icon doesn't look bad by itself, but next to high-res ones like TuneNet's it looks a little dated.
The current icon is of the starship Enterprise 1701-D (Star Trek The Next Generation), but one of Voyager or the classic Enterprise might look cool too.

MInor TuneNet bugs with OS4.1

I've noticed a couple of minor issues using TuneNet with OS4.1
1) The black and white IPod style dock icons don't show properly. You can't read the text and there is a pink background around them. I can upload a picture of this if necessary.
2) When quitting TuneNet sometimes the dock icon stays in the Amidock.

My experience is that it is most efficient to put the swap partition as close to the partition mostly used when you normally run out of memory.
To simplify: Put Boot/WB partition first. Then swap. Last Work: or other large partitions which are not accessed in their completeness very often.
This makes the head swing the shortest way on average since the swap and boot/WB and beginning of Work: are closest to swap.
If you put it like this: Boot/WB/programs Work: (large) Swap (end of disk)
..the head would need to swing all the way over the large Work: partition everytime you load a program and run out of RAM:, then back to WB to load some more, the over to swap, then back to WB etc.. lot of swing and tear of the drive and slow swapping.
Right now I have: SWAP Boot/WB Games Utils ... That's just about as good, right? The reason I put the SWAP on the drive first is because the install booklet mentioned it first.

Quote:the access and file transfer is on the outer sectors faster. Unless you use an at least 10 years old HD it doesn't matter at all on the AmigaOne because of the very slow PCI IDE DMA transfer speeds (about 45 MB/s max.), even the cheapest HD is much faster on the slowest part than that.
So, basically, it doesn't matter. The reason I'm asking is because I've already put the SWAP partition as the first partition on the drive, but I also left some empty space at the end of the drive. So I could put a SWAP partition at the end of the drive and remove the SWAP partition at the front of the drive and use it to make my boot/Workbench partition bigger. If I were to delete the SWAP partition and expand the next partition, would I lose the data already on the expanded partition?

OS4.1 formatting/filesystem question

I've installed OS4.1 on a new hard drive (I'm still trying to get my files off the old drive, but that's a different story)
I set all the partitions to SFS/00, buffers to 1000 and the blocksize to 512. All the partitions except one will format fine. One partition when I try to format it says "disk full". If I change that partition to StandardFileSystem it will format fine.
The only difference between that partition and the others is the size. It's about 139 GB and the others are about 68 GB.
Not a big deal, I was just wondering why.

@LyleHaze Quote: LyleHaze wrote: Recent discussions have shown that prefs:UBoot can not save and restore all settings correctly (if I understood the conversation right). Now I need to change my battery. Before doing this, I need to save off my UBOOT settings. I tried typing printenv and writing down everything I see, but about a full screen had scrolled off before I could read it.
My question: How can I back up my UBOOT settings correctly? Is there any way to read that information while OS4 is running, or is it only available before the OS has been loaded?
Thanks, LyleHaze
If you have a printer, there is a way to send the UBoot settings to your printer. The command is something like nvgetvar > prt: But I'm not sure that's exactly it.

OS4.1 SLB

Is the SLB included with the OS4.1 install disk any different than the one from the July update?
If so, will the new SLB be installed automatically during OS4.1 installation? Or would it have to be manually installed?

@Rogue
I believe you said the
Reading sector1 Reading sector2 ... Reading sector 256
thing was fixed in an unpublished update, right?
Suggestion:
Would it be feasible to have SOME kind of output on the screen even if the battery is dead? I know the hardware/software can't read the battery's voltage but anything would be better than a blank screen. Even just a "Uboot Copyright 2008" would be better than nothing.
Of course it's not a real big problem as most of us know now if we get just a blank screen to change the battery. But it would be nice if it wasn't too hard to implement.
