@kas1e I was thinking about this issue: while we see big difference in idle performance between Sam and PegII at several stages, when "drawing" at high resolutions and color depth the difference is negligible (like 1 FPS).
Could this be where the CPU actually becomes irrelevant and our GL problems come in? Or maybe it is a banwidth bottleneck we're hitting (like for example the 133Mhz FSB)?

@kas1e I have the same system as Samo above, I can add some more data ("USE" is done by using the 8 pixel Brush moving very fast until FPS counter is stable):
idle 640x480 x 16Bit = 26 FPS USE 640x480 x 16Bit = 13 FPS
idle 800x600 x 16Bit = 20 FPS USE 800x600 x 16Bit = 12 FPS
idle 1280x720 x 32Bit = 14 FPS USE 1280x720 x 32Bit = 10 FPS
I noticed that by choosing the 1 pixel pencil tool even when idle the frame rate increases, also I reckon that minimum frame rate (when using the tool) stays quite "similar" no matter the resolution! Idle frame rate changes way more instead. For example 640x480@16 gives "13" frames, while 1280x720@32 gives 10 frames (it drops just 3 frames even if the resolution and color depth is much higher).

@kas1e Great there are very good hopes for my pledges then! Anyway, at this point I think that with the new improvements it should work pretty much real time on better HW. What do you think will be more useful, more CPU power or more bandwidth (like higher FSB/PCI-E etc.) ?

@kas1e Just tryed it..........WOW! major speed boost! it is actually quite usable here compared to first versions is night and day!
I was wondering (now that it's quite usable he he), is the "Magic Wand" supposed to work? (I select it, click inside the window as I do in PS but no go, only rectangle selection works).
Also, is there/will there ever be support for layers?
Finally will there ever be ASL saving as well?

@alfkil Well we should be able to make an AmiCygnix version of the new Lightwave Core then, I hear it's made in pure C++ aside from the GUI which is made in QT designer (if only we had the source code )

@djrikki As a very good engineer once said: "good/well written software" doesn't freeze nor has trouble with memory protection. On Amiga we have plenty of stable software but also a lot of Beta/Alpha software that can crash the system. Basically when you decide to try out beta/alpha stuff, you should be in a "adventurous" state of mind and save any important data before doing so (Amiga OS does re-boot in the blink of an eye after all). Of course an end user like me has a different experience compared to Kas1e (developer), when I decide to stick to quality software such as the latest releases of OWB, TuneNet, Yam, MPlayer, WarpView, Blender, RunInUae, gNgeo, Scumm (and more) I get to use my Amiga from start up to switch off without a single system crash (that would be impossible for kas1e with all the alpha code he handles all the time )

@kas1e If you need paint apps on OS4 just ask kas1e You're the man! (hope you get to squash the bugs and release it soon!)

@kas1e I love weird image editors instead Anyway keep up the good work with LodePaint, it might be a premiere App on newer HW! @Chris Thanks for the link I bookmarked it (you'll never know ) @ALL Does anybody knows what Happened to Luna Paint? It looked very promising (tryed on icaros) but it has been quite a while since the last update (previously updates were more frequent). I have an (old)issue of Amiga Future here with an interview to its creator, the guy said it was going to become commercial and that an OS4 version was also coming!

@kas1e Thanks! I didn't even know there was a 5.0 version How often you get DSI? Are they ignorable? (Broadblues uses ImageFX 4.5 and says he seldom get ignorable DSI). Is it still available?

@djrikki Great thread Photogenic used to be an award winning program till it was developed: http://www.idruna.com/products_features.html@All Does anyone use Photogenics 4.2 on AmigaOS 4.1Update 2? Can you post a screen shot while running with modern/current window borders?

@djrikki You can go ahead and make a template of the section I described, then ask here (with 2 new consecutive threads) for help on both screen-shots and descriptions. The first thread should be made to compile the list and should not be a generic "what are your favorite Amiga apps?" but more specific, asking for the best 3 programs Amiga has for every category. For example you should ask "what are the best 3 programs for music making?" "what are the best 3 for music listening?" and so on for every possible computing task. Then sample all the answers and make a list. At this point you can make a second thread asking for quality screen shots and detailed descriptions for the programs that made the list. 2 or 3 days and you're done

@joerg Download manager with support for multiple concurrent downloads and resume is one of the most important features for a big majority of people (second would be top quality favorites handling ). @ djrikki Very good now, the only thing I would change is the section where you ask "can I do this and that" on Amiga, and then you list some programs. That part is very important for new comers so you should build an entire section dedicated to it. You should ask "what does Amiga offers me to handle, say, images?" and then you put detailed screens like these: http://software.alinea-computer.de/gfx/arteffect/filter.pnghttp://software.alinea-computer.de/gf ... effect/arteffect_ober.pngand descriptions. what does Amiga offers for music (and again quality screens and description) http://www.hd-rec.de/HD-Rec/pics//screenshots/hdrec_full.pngDon't forget WARPVIEW, for viewing pictures, in never fails to amaze people here when I rotate pictures in 3D Anyway do that for each type of computing task (including Page Stream for text/DTP, Hollywood for presentations and of course Timberwolf, Blender and so on) that would impress new comers quite a bit!

@Vox Another thing to consider is the question where to from now? I also have an A2000 with OS3.9BB2 (and several added libs), but I don't see myself doing, modern browsing, modern 3D or...well...modern anything on it.
While I understand those that thought of Amiga as a game console with added keyboard (they never did anything productive with the thing) and cling to their 1200s, I don't understand why marginally upgrading OS3.9 that no matter what, stays obsolete (as stated above) and goes nowhere (ie: no modern "anything" on the horizon).
If you want modern, there are a ton of options but that one IMHO. (ad these options are right here right now).

@Helgis Remember that summer ends September (around)20 But anyway, only Beta testers will get it, it would seem. @ChrisH I believe that with any new HW release older one will be "re-priced" so the Sam440 733 will be cheaper by the time the 460 will be out (and the latter should end up being around 850/900 for a complete system).

@djrikki I like the fact that is show some content and "featured" downloads, it needs more "graphics" though, not too fancy, but right now it's a little "bare-bone" in that regard. Also put AmiBoing LightUp and All Flat screens in the customizeble screens, the first shows how "Win7insh fancy" it can look, the second how serious/professional (but modern at the same time) it can look (MO).
