I have the same problem here.
I boot with my mouse at one of the rear USB ports (keyboard is in PS2). When I boot, the mouse is not recognised. If I unplug it and replug it again on the rear ports. It doesn't get mounted. Sometimes its laser doesn't even light up!
If I unplug it from the rear and plug it at the front ports. It works. Then if I move it again to the rear ports, it works!

Enter the early boot menu, press (and keep down) the Scroll lock key (on a PC keyboard) when the kickstart modules are loaded.
Then boot without startup-sequence.
(alternatively you can stop at the boot console pressing Alt, IIRC)

Now enter the interactive mode and run the s-s like this:
set interactive on
execute s:startup-sequence

then you can press Enter on each line and see if they are executed fast or not.
(Esc to exit the interactive mode and continue)

Just to be sure I understand what OpenGL is, tell me if I'm wrong. It's an API, i.e you write in your code glClear(). This function existing in your gfx card driver will produce the result on screen, right?
So we could have either OpenGL glClear() => gfx driver or MiniGL glClear() => gfx driver, right?
In this case, I would prefer to see OpenGL, a widely used API, on OS4 instead of MiniGL.
